Position Summary: Serves as a critical member of AHIP s Public Affairs leadership team. Develops and executes a comprehensive communications strategy and initiatives that align with AHIP s overall policy goals and objectives related to the healthcare services sector, acting as the association's lead spokesperson. Develops relationships with relevant external and internal stakeholders.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Leads the development and execution of AHIP s communications vision and strategy in alignment with AHIP s policy and program objectives and provides strategic direction to the communications team and other functional teams to ensure a cohesive approach to AHIP s policy, advocacy, and branding efforts.
  2. Serves as communications counselor to senior management, including preparing the C-Suite for all media interviews.
  3. Directly manages the overall communications strategy and provides oversight of AHIP s communications consultants to help develop creative for earned and paid media targeted to AHIP s stakeholders and serves as the lead on the record spokesperson.
  4. Defines and communicates AHIP s value proposition and differentiators across the policy and advocacy suite of services, identifies target market segments for new solutions by understanding consumer trends, and develops strategies to position AHIP as a trusted and innovative partner.
  5. Translates market brand position and value proposition into highly compelling external-facing collateral across various touchpoints as needed.
  6. Drives cross-functional efforts to enhance awareness and recognition through omnichannel marketing tactics and collaborates with AHIP s digital team in developing a solid online presence through the website, social media platforms, content marketing, email campaigns, and other digital channels.
  7. Is responsible for the development and execution of a robust content strategy that includes thought leadership, educational content, whitepapers, case studies, etc., ensuring that the content aligns with stakeholder needs and supports AHIP s positioning as an innovative and trusted industry leader.
  8. Actively stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and market dynamics to identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and differentiation. Leverages market insights to refine marketing strategies and tactics.
  9. Fosters collaboration between marketing and other AHIP stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to achieving business objectives and ensures the organization s marketing goals are communicated and represented in cross-functional plans.
  10. Leads the communications team and oversees the media relations function, including planning and staff development; builds, leads, and mentors a high-performing communications team.
  11. Performs other tasks as required or assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises the members of the Communications Team.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  1. Bachelor s Degree and/or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum of 10-12 years of communications experience, including, but not limited to, health care and trade associations.
  3. Extensive on-the-record experience and knowledge of health care policy.


Other Qualifications

  • Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the healthcare services sector, a proven track record of successful communications initiatives, and strong leadership skills.
  • Proven press contacts and a keen ability to interact with high-level media in discussing complex, substantive health insurance-related policy matters.
  • Experience working with senior executives in media and communications.
  • Understanding of traditional and new media cycles and processes.
  • Ability to understand public policy issues and stay current on trends.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior executives and members of the media.
  • Ability to work favorably as part of a team, understand and follow directions.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m.
