GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The position of Field Technician primarily supports our structural inspection process, working with the engineering team to collect deterioration and defect data in the field. The role will learn to use technology like 360 video walks and electronic tablets to document field conditions for review, assessment, and creation of inspection reports. Additionally, this role will support our operations when not conducting field inspections. This will include performing leak surveys, measuring quantities, assisting in the management of service and repair projects, conducting safety audits, assisting with quality control inspections, performing non-destructive testing, and other field duties as assigned.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • An associates or four-year degree in a construction related field is desired, however, a minimum of a high school education is required.
  • > 5 years experience in the building construction field
  • Familiarization with structural components, terminology, and field construction is required
  • Demonstrated skill with electronic technology, including tablet use, smart phone use, utilizing these to capture photos, etc.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility in a fast paced, evolving work environment.
  • Willingness to spend a majority of time in the field on job sites within approximately three hours of home base; overnight travel sometimes required.


LICENSE, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Valid state driver s license and acceptable motor vehicle record. Minimum insurance requirements to be fulfilled per vehicle allowance policy.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

There are no direct reports to this position.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspection
  • Working with engineering staff, complete walk-through surveys of structures, collecting photographs, videos, and field data to document existing conditions, including defects, damage, and service life status.
  • Utilize electronic tablets, 360 cameras, and other equipment to record observations for review and assessment by engineering staff.
  • Perform chloride ion sampling as part of inspection process.
  • Conduct non-destructive diagnostics, such as acoustic sounding (chain-dragging, hammer sounding, etc.), rebar/PT/conduit locating, and other similar duties.
  • Collaborate with business partners and other resources to generate accurate field drawings.
  • Participate in real-time communication engineering staff during inspection process.
  • Assist in preliminary report generation working with engineering staff and PPS.
  • Operations and Engineering Support
  • Support our service and repair project management process through frequent job site visits.
  • Perform and document leak surveys, percentage of completion inspection, and other project management duties in support of the project management team.
  • Complete safety audits of active repair and service projects.
  • Collect field quantities in support of statement of work and proposal development.
  • Perform non-destructive testing.
  • Assist with quality control inspections.
  • Serve as a field representative on larger projects, representing the project management team when a frequent/daily job presence is required. This will include utilizing technology like 360 video walks, iPad tablets, and photo capture of ongoing work.
