General Job Description

The System Administrator will be a member of a dynamic and high-functioning team responsible for the overall management and administration of applications and services in a hybrid cloud and on-premise Windows/Linux environment. This individual will work closely with other IT team members to provide cross-functional administration, support, and maintenance. This is a great opportunity to enhance your skill set by managing existing applications and systems as well as researching, developing, and implementing new applications and systems across the organization. This is a full-time, exempt position in MPRs Alexandria, VA office reporting to the IT Operations Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Upgrade, patch, and maintain operating systems and application software on RHEL 7.x, 8.x & 9.x; and Windows Server 2016 & 2019.
  • Administer the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).
  • Implement, deploy, and maintain the MECM Software Center.
  • Using MECM, or other tools, patch and remediate endpoint and server vulnerabilities on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist team members with the designing, planning, and implementation of Group Policy Objects.
  • Maintain and upgrade application servers supporting engineering, industry-specific applications.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of cybersecurity and disaster recovery processes and procedures.
  • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other necessary technical documentation as needed.
  • Provide Tier 3 escalation support for the Service Desk.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support emergencies and MPR business goals.
Qualifications:
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
Education
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Network +, Security+ and/or ITIL v3 certifications are a plus.
  • Microsoft and/or Linux Certifications are a plus.
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CCP) or Azure Fundamentals certifications are a plus.
Experience
  • Candidates without a degree will be considered if they have a minimum of five (5) years hands-on experience in systems or application administration.
  • At least 4 (four) years of experience in systems or application administration.
Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong understanding of Windows Active Directory troubleshooting and maintenance required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Server 2016 and 2019 required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft MECM required.
  • A strong knowledge of basic network principles and functions, e.g., DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, etc. required.
  • A firm understanding of industry security best practices required.
  • Strong time management and customer service skills required.
  • Experience with AWS Services like Directory Service, Identity & Access Management, Elastic Compute (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3), Glacier, and Relational Database Service (RDS) preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure applications such as Office 365, Teams, OneDrive InTune, and SharePoint in Government Community Cloud HIGH and public cloud tenants preferred.
  • Experience with platform virtualization software such as VMWare preferred.
  • Familiarity with RHEL or similar preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies while multitasking.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functional teams, in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others.
  • Motivated to expand skills and knowledge, as well as tackle new problems and take on new responsibilities.
