Job Responsibilities

About Coastal Regional Center
Coastal Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Summerville, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Under direct supervision, this position may facilitate recreation programs for a regional center. Plans, implements andoversees recreational programs to meet the needs, desires and abilities of residents. Plans and oversees special musicprograms; provides music for special recreation or religious activities. Instructs residents in methods, techniques and rulesof various recreational activities. Escorts or transports residents to and from recreation areas. Requisitions and maintains appropriate supplies and equipment.

1. Plans, implements and oversees recreational and leisure activities and/or programs to meet the needs, desires and abilities of residents.

2. Ensures alternate programs and weekend schedules are identified for residents. This may include during hazardous weather, weekends, day and special circumstances. Ensures alternate programs are implemented within the residence of the consumers.

3. Plans and coordinates on/off campus outings. Escorts or transports consumers to and from recreation areas both on-campus and off-campus.

4. Requisitions and maintains appropriate supplies and equipment. Provides decorations for events.

5. Provides direct hands on individual care to all consumers as needed. Follows sound professional techniques according to agency guidelines, rules and regulations. Participates in training and provides guidance to consumers in the development of activities of daily living skills. Monitors and transports consumers to and from programs, activities and off-campus appointments/trips. Ensures the health and safety of each consumer while assigned to a residential building. May be required to stay over or work an additional shift to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained to ensure the safety of consumers.

This position is eligible for up to $3.50/hour shift differential for applicable shifts!

Minimum and Additional Requirements

High School diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or a related field maybe substituted for work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of various types of recreational activities. Knowledge of how to plan, organize and oversee recreational activities. Knowledge of recreational therapy principles, techniques and methods. Ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of subordinates. Ability to motivate and sustain the interest of residents. Ability to instruct residents in various recreational activities. Ability to communicate effectively.
