Our client is seeking a talented Senior Protection and Controls Engineer to join their team. If you have a background in high voltage transmission system protection schemes and relay programming for utility or generation clients, we want to hear from you. In this role, you will be responsible for leading design efforts and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional results.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Protection and Controls Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing high voltage one-line diagrams, communication network diagrams, and three-line diagrams.
- Performing computer modeling and analysis of electrical systems.
- Preparing specifications for equipment and systems.
- Applying codes and standards and producing design drawings.
- Coordinating technical efforts within discipline areas and managing design budgets and schedules.
- Directing and reviewing the work of junior engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Collaborating with clients to determine project requirements.
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) and 10+ years of relevant experience with electric utility substations up to 345kV.
- Proficiency in protective relay coordination and settings calculations for HV and EHV transmission systems.
- Experience with common transmission line protection schemes, such as step-distance, POTT, DCB, and DUTT.
- Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements related to electric utility substation reliability.
- Familiarity with electrical system analysis software such as ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, and PSLF.
- Experience with SCADA, IP networking, RTUs, and communication networks is a plus.
- Ability to work permanently in the US.
- Optional experience in field testing and commissioning of substation equipment, factory acceptance witness testing, or project management is desirable.
