This Role...

ATD's Production, Editorial, and Creative department is responsible for editing, designing, producing, and distributing ATD's publications, which include 10+ books annually, two monthly periodicals, research reports, and white papers. Additionally, the department supports the editorial and creative needs of all of ATD's business lines, including Marketing, Education, Conferences, Membership, Enterprise, and Global.

As a Publications Specialist at ATD, you will report to the Distribution Manager supporting the Production, Editorial, and Creative department. The Publications Specialist is responsible for the collection and maintenance of publishing metadata for all ATD books and other publications, as well as the data collection and database management associated with preparing royalty statements. Distribution channels include direct-to-customer sales via the ATD website, Amazon, trade distributors, special sales, and international distributors.

Specifically, the key initiatives you will support in this role include:

  • Collecting and validating metadata to meet specific distribution channel requirements.
  • Ensuring all data is accurate and current within the correct database, as well as delivering high-quality data on a timely basis to all channels.
  • Helping to develop and document best metadata practices to meet all business needs.
  • Maintaining publication webpages using ATD's CMS.
  • Maintaining databases and spreadsheets needed to generate royalty statements for authors.
  • Maintaining relationships with all licensing partners.
  • Maintaining all ATD publications and rules on Copyright Clearance Center.
  • Providing rights management support.
  • Registering all publications with the Copyright Office and the Library of Congress.
  • Creating PDFs of books and magazine articles for posting on our website.
  • Sending out author, comp, and review copies of all titles and distributing copies to internal staff.
  • Handling publications-related customer service needs for authors, members, and staff.
About You...
  • 3 years of related experience in the publishing industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Proven experience and comfort working with databases and content management systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLookups.
  • Intermediate to advanced Adobe Acrobat skills.
  • Basic HTML knowledge.
  • Highly attentive to detail.
  • Above-average analytical and communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable owning projects.

  • The Distribution team is a collaborative team of two that supports the broader Production, Editorial, and Creative departments.
  • We are responsible for supporting the distribution and inventory management needs for ATD's books and serial publications.
