Description

Performs work planning, organizing and supervising the activities and operations of a Community Recreation Center; does related work as required or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the District Supervisors. Supervision is exercised over the Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor, Senior Recreation Leader and/or Playfield Leader.

Examples of Duties

Plans, schedules, trains, assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of staff; supervises staff, contractors and volunteers leading activities at the center; ability to lead a variety of recreational activities; trains staff on procedures of facility to include, but not limited to opening, closing, registration, rentals, and other procedures

Manages facility with programming, gym usage, community groups and rentals in various areas of facility and park grounds; completes daily walkthroughs of facility and grounds and submits any maintenance request as needed.

Works closely with public to seek community needs for programming; plans, markets and implements a variety of programming; Enforces center rules and regulations; maintains patrons following code of conduct.

Maintain reports required on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis; assist in the screening and selection of center staff; other responsibilities as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree with coursework in Parks and Recreation Management, or related field and considerable experience operating a recreation or athletic facility, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirement of three (3) years responsible recreation experience in programming (athletics, camps, leisure activities) and a minimum one (2) year supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the techniques and methods of organizing group recreational activities; knowledge of community organizations and resources; ability to instruct youth, children and adults in various sports, games and group participation events; ability to supervise the activities of staff; ability to plan and direct center programs and to gain the support and enthusiasm of participants; ability to develop and maintain effective public relationships; ability to speak before public gatherings; ability to keep records and prepare reports.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exe1iion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
