Description

Performs skilled administrative support work which includes conducting a variety of community recreational and cultural programs and events; operating the Leland Cultural Arts Center office, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Acts as receptionist for the Leland Cultural Arts Center; greets visitors; receives and responds to public inquiries about the facility, programing, and events; provides tours of the facility.
  • Conducts a variety of arts, educational and recreational programs and events in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Registers participants for programs; assists instructors with class lists, timesheets, supplies, and other records or documents.
  • Assists with developing and coordinating programs, special events, exhibitions, facility rentals, and volunteer programs.
  • Provides excellent customer service in the execution of programs, projects, and special events.
  • Performs general setup/breakdown and cleaning activities as related to indoor and outdoor programs and special events.
  • Physically stages programs and events in a manner that reduces risks and ensures participant safety.
  • Monitors program, event, and rental execution, ensuring activities are running smoothly.
  • Assists with public outreach and publicity activities; distributes promotional materials.
  • Develops community relationships and partnerships; oversees and works with volunteers.
  • Performs general office tasks as necessary; collects and prepares data related to programs and events such as attendance reports and evaluations.
  • Monitors the facility in the absence of management and enforces the rules and guidelines.
  • Serves as a Town of Leland representative in the community; promotes events, activities and programs; encourages the use of facilities and parks.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with experience in administrative support, event and/or program coordination, marketing, or related field and moderate experience in recreation or arts programming or an office environment that includes public contact work, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
  • Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certifications within six months of hire.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation and/or arts administrative work.
  • General knowledge of one or more phases of community recreation activities.
  • General knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work.
  • General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment as well as knowledge of general computer software.
  • Ability to provide working leadership to a group of recreation participants
  • General knowledge of preparing reports, invoices, and contracts.
  • Skill in the use of social media and computer software for facility reservations, class registration, point-of-sale and memberships.
  • General knowledge of cash handling practices.
  • Ability to learn and operate basic AV equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates, and the general public.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to vibration, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
