Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Grocery Clerk is responsible for providing consistently phenomenal customer service, efficiently receiving, preparing, and merchandising products, and maintaining attractive displays of products. This position upholds Co-op standards including genuine customer service, department conditions, safety, productivity, and other workplace conditions in a manner that upholds the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and the co-operative identity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Upholds all Co-op policies, procedures and expectations.
  2. Customer Experience
    • Exceed our customers expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all people and all diverse backgrounds and in accordance with the Co-ops customer service standards.
    • Model, provide, and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services in a professional manner that markets our cooperative advantage.
    • Help customers make product selections by answering questions and providing information about ingredients in all food items.
    • Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers and in all situations.
    • Ensure that product displays are maintained, full, clean, and attractive at all times.
  3. Department Operations
    • Order, stock and rotate products following Grocery Department procedures.
    • Follow department procedures for handling new products and price changes.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of stocking supplies and product back stock locations for the Grocery Department.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of vendors, products, and delivery schedules for the Grocery Department.
  4. Clerk Duties
    • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
    • Wear proper clothing during shift, including apron and nametag, closed-toe shoes and shirt with sleeves.
    • Maintain accurate and attractive signage within the department.
    • Keep the department orderly and clean.
  5. Other Duties
    • Assist in inventory counts, storewide cleaning, and other projects as needed.
    • Attend meetings and events as requested.
    • Ensure equipment repair and maintenance is communicated to appropriate personnel and make adjustments until equipment has been improved.
    • Demonstrate support for the cooperative values and principles daily.
    • Perform other duties and work in other departments as assigned.
    • Know and uphold the Employee Handbook consistently.

  4. Computer Skills
    • Use Email, website, and time clock software proficiently.
