PAID INTERNSHIP

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Family Connection Director the Children, Youth & Family Services Intern is primarily responsible for the implementation of Family Connection services for children in multiple risk environments. Family Connection services include Summer Camps, Curriculum-Based Support Groups (CBSGs), and Life Enrichment Activities. In addition, the CYFS intern will represent a mentor/role model position, providing leadership, direction, healthy decision making and safety to children attending Rainbow Days Summer Camps and events.

CORE DUTIES:


Assists with the planning, preparation, and implementation of Summer Camps:


Kids University Camp is held in June.

Camp Bravo! Camp is held in June.

Rainbow Days Outdoor Adventure Camp is held in early August.

The CYFS intern is required to make schedule adjustments to attend all days of camp for the entire allotted time not only to be there for the children they mentor, but to also provide positive adult interaction with all the children present.

Assists with the planning, preparation, and implementation of Life Enrichment Activities for shelter-based services:

Art with a Heart Events and Imagination Connection Events

Family Outings (i.e. Saturday with Santa and, Back-to-School Celebration)

Co-Facilitate Curriculum-Based Support Groups with children at assigned shelter sites for the Family Connection program using fidelity in implementation following the guidelines included in the Family Connection Curriculum, teaching children coping and social skills and practice and reinforce these positive life skills.

Interact with all children, parents, volunteers, and housing provider staff in a positive, caring, and professional manner, keeping in mind the sole focus is the physical safety and emotional well-being of the children in the program.

Collect participant and group data at assigned sites.

Participate in program evaluation by implementing pre- and post-tests with participants at assigned sites.

Provide timely reports and supporting documentation for the Family Connection division.


Develop and maintain positive working relationships with assigned sites and with social services agencies.

Coordinate the preparation and distribution of group supplies and materials.

Work at least 2-3 nights per week when shelter groups are up and running and some weekends as needed.

Assist with the planning, preparation, and implementation of Summer Camps, including set up, breakdown and clean up.

Assist with the preparation and delivery of the monthly Project Hope food program.

Assist with the continued organization and upkeep of onsite and off-site storage units.

Attend networking/collaboration meetings as assigned.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS (must meet all the following criteria):


  • Currently enrolled full-time or part time as an undergraduate
  • Completed freshman year.
  • Organizational skills w/ attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Self-starter with strong work ethics, positive attitude, and good interpersonal skills
  • Team player yet works well individually.
  • Personal vehicle with insurance coverage; Must have a valid driver s license.
  • Ability to handle stressful circumstances w/ a mindful, respectful, and positive approach.
  • Ability to interact positively with children facing traumas such as homelessness, domestic violence, child abuse and poverty.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic background.

In addition to the above, the Children, Youth & Family Services Intern shall demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and goals of RDI and a level of energy commensurate with RDI expectations.

REPORTS TO & EVALUATED BY: Director of Family Connection


HOURS: Flexible schedule 40 hours per week Monday-Friday, some Saturdays and evenings per week required. Part-time hours are also available.


SCHEDULE: This position requires availability for afternoons/evenings (Monday through Thursday) 2-3 nights per week as needed for support groups. Approximately 6 Saturdays are required annually.


SALARY: Competitive Salary commensurate on experience.


TRAVEL: The Children, Youth & Family Services (CYFS) Intern will be reimbursed for his/her local travel at the current state rate of $0.625 per mile. Approved out-of-town travel for RDI purposes will be fully reimbursed.

OUT-OF-TOWN TRAVEL: 5% or less
