What You ll Do:

Finance and Accounting Operations

Lead the financial administration for NDI including, financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and reports

Direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, cost reduction and investment activities of the organization, as well as Strategic and Operational Plan Projects as assigned

Monitor financial activities and details such as reserve levels and bank balances

Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting in conjunction with Senior Leadership team and external partners, including the audit firm

Assess financial position and provide forecasting and modeling to support NDI s strategic goals

Oversee requests for disbursements and authorizes disbursements in accordance with policies and procedures, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments

Record and adjust investments according to approved allocations as directed by Investment Committee; evaluates needs for procurement of funds and investments and make appropriate recommendations

Manage payroll processing and issuance, recordkeeping

Lead staff training and development in budgeting and financial management

Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards


Strategic Leadership

Manages Financial and Administrative Functions and delivers Long Range vision and plans

Partner with Executive Director to drive both operations and strategic initiatives forward within staffing and budgetary resources

  • Collaborates as a cross-departmental leader to ensure alignment in the execution of the organization s strategy
  • Provides strategic recommendations to the Executive Director and Senior Leadership team to improve the financial and organizational management of the organization
  • Develop an annual operating plan that encompasses all areas of responsibility and is aligned with the organization s strategic direction and long-range plan
  • Implement policies, procedures, and protocols as set by the Board of Directors related to finance, investment, and compliance
  • Serve as member and partner to the Board and its Committee, and attend, present and speak to the financial health of NDI

Leadership and Staff Management

  • Directly supervise the accounting team, including all training, professional development, and weekly check-in meetings with direct report to provide feedback and determine key priorities.
  • Provide leadership to the team in demonstrating a high commitment to exceptional customer service and communication in supporting staff
  • Serve as liaison to the board finance committee, coordinating and preparing agendas and materials for meetings and facilitating the conversation with both the finance committee and the full board
  • Leverage the strengths of the finance staff by clarifying their roles and responsibilities while creating and promoting a positive and supportive work environment
  • Partner with the leadership team to help advance the mission and values of the organization.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization


What You ll Need:

  • Bachelor s degree in accounting/finance or related field. MBA strongly preferred; 10+ years progressive experience within a nonprofit
  • Hands-on expertise in administration of contracts, grants, and awards and funder compliance, reporting and risks
  • Ability to lead audit activities, reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger and facilities
  • Advanced technical and software skills; remain abreast of financial and audit best-practices, state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations
  • Collaborative and coaching leadership style; exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to meet competing deadlines
  • Commitment to the work of NDI New Mexico
