Position Summary

Student Support Specialists (SSS) create behavior support plans for students in need, help students and families access community resources and implement restorative practices on site. SSS acts as a restorative practices leader by facilitating targeted interventions, youth development electives, training staff on restorative practices. SSS work with all staff and students at sites to ensure that they have the tools and resources needed for joyful summer learning and high quality programming.

This is a six-week position: one week of faculty training and five weeks supporting the learning of middle school students. All Aim High summer staff also have the opportunity to participate in online training before the start of the summer program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Link students and families to appropriate resources as needed with on-going mental health services, recreation and sports programs, afterschool programs, youth development programs and medical services.

* Lead and participate in Faculty Training Week workshops.

* Understand weekly topics, themes, and plans for delivery of Aim High Issues + Choices class, Future Success class and community circles.

* Observe and support Issues + Choices and Future Success classes and provide coaching and support as needed.

* Act as a restorative practices leader by:

+ Helping train and support staff on restorative practices.

+ Managing and overseeing targeted interventions: restorative dialogue, conflict mediation, etc.

+ Working with Site Directors when intensive intervention is needed.

* Facilitate a youth development or mental health related elective class twice a week.

* Facilitate a minimum of one parent workshop focusing on social emotional well being.

* Manage and facilitate student referral process for site:

+ If needed provide one-on-one check-ins, group check-ins, support break out groups in advisory class.

+ Collaborate with Site Director on family support referrals.

* Participate in weekly staff meetings and weekly check-ins with Site Directors.

* Run weekly office hours for family, student and teacher check-ins.

* May work at 1 site or split time between no more than 2 sites.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree in social work, school health, counseling or other related fields.

* Masters degree or MFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) with at least one year of school experience is preferred, but not required.

* Experience and training in leading restorative practices in a school setting.

* Cultural competency, strong leadership & communication skills and a commitment to social justice, anti-racism and equity in education.

* Bilingual in Cantonese and/or Spanish and knowledge of community resources are a plus.

Compensation and Schedule:

* This is an hourly position of $28 to $35 per hour.

* This is a full time, non-exempt position for the six weeks of the program:

+ Program dates in San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Novato, San Rafael and East Palo Alto are June 13 through July 22.

+ Program dates in Napa and Tahoe/Truckee are June 27 through August 5.

* This position is expected to work during the general hours of 8am to 4pm and up to three family evening events.
