This role will be scheduled to work on a hybrid basis in our Chicago office Monday-Friday 8:45am-5:15pm.


OVERVIEW

The Business Services Specialist will be a part of Jenner & Block s Business Services Team (BeST). The BeST team is a support center that provides advanced level application and document support for lawyers and staff. The team produces a wide variety of documents, including complex legal documents, exhibits, reports, and graphs, using an assortment of software. The team also types, edits, and revises documents quickly and according to instructions; proofreads thoroughly and accurately for content and typographical errors; and performs well under deadlines.


REQUIRED JOB FUNCTIONS

BeST must have advanced knowledge of applications typically used in a legal environment, such as, but not limited to:

  • Proofreading, editing, formatting, and finalizing various types of documents (legal and non-legal) using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Creating comparison documents using Litera, CompareDocs, and Microsoft Office Native Comparison functions.
  • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and correcting problem documents using BigHand and DocXTools.
  • Identifying correct legal format and terminology.
  • Developing OFT email files in MS Outlook.
  • Creating, revising, and converting documents using Adobe Acrobat and/or Kofax from one file format to another.
  • Provide Vuture support to draft invitations and announcements.
  • Managing, sharing, and collaborating using NetDocs.
  • Provide SharePoint support for intranet pages.
  • Creating, revising, and navigating complex charts/diagrams using Visio and/or PowerPoint.
  • Contributing to the drafting of specifications, policies, and processes.
  • Performing quality assurance, quality checking, and user testing as needed.
  • Providing floor support for application rollouts.
  • Assisting callers via remote assistance.
  • Converting documents from one application to another.
  • Performing or facilitating translations.
  • Performing or facilitating transcriptions.
  • Performing data entry and analysis services.
  • Provide support for other specialized legal software.
  • Provide additional support onsite and after hours.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


COMPETENCIES

  • Expert level proficiency in MS Word, including formatting documents, using styles, creating TOCs and TOAs, etc.
  • Advanced level proficiency in MS PowerPoint, including Inserting pictures, graphs, and diagrams, using slide animation and transitions, and working with the Slide Master.
  • Advanced level proficiency in MS Excel, including but not limited to, using advanced functions, creating pivot charts and tables, and utilizing V-LOOKUP.
  • Ability to comprehend large data sets and understand how the data should best be visualized so the client (lawyer or staff) can easily draw the correct conclusions. Experience with Asana, SharePoint, and NetDocs a plus.
  • Possess mastery and correct application of proofreading symbols.
  • Demonstrate practical problem-solving skills and solid troubleshooting skills.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both oral and written; have excellent language skills, including reading, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
  • Strong attention to detail.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with iTimeKeep, LMSV, and billing functions in an AMLAW firm setting.
  • Experience managing learning management systems such as Intellek.
  • Familiarity with AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style, and other editorial style guides.
  • Experience utilizing BlueBook for drafting, revising, and filing complex legal documents.
  • Experience with InDesign, PhotoShop, and Project Management related skills relating to requests received and further opportunities.
