Maintenance Technician I

Summary

Performs facilities services tasks including the non-technical maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating of arc Thrift Stores properties at an entry level and not requiring licensure. May be required to assist in tasks of other unlicensed trades, carpenter and /or painter. Reports to Facilities Manager. This is an entry level position with room for advancement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cleaning of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems for the facilities; performs replacement of air filters, and assists in maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units.
  • Assists and performs maintenance of plumbing systems, to include repair or replacement of leaking fixtures and cleaning obstructed waste lines.
  • Assists in maintenance tasks including.
  • Assists in general maintenance projects, routine, paint touch ups, custodial, and trash removal tasks.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Documents and maintains appropriate records of inspections and work orders.
  • Performs snow removal, as required.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Ability.

  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork and keep maintenance records.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to assigned task.
  • Ability to read, understanding, following, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to travel between various locations, possession of a clean, valid Colorado driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Education and/or Experience Required

  • High school diploma or GED; at least some experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified. (apartment complex maintenance; basic handyman skills)
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to work with individuals possessing developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to use good judgment.
  • Energy to take on fast-paced work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Available to work 40hrs per week with occasional on-call entailing nights, weekends or holidays.
  • Well-organized, must be able to work independently and as a productive team member.

Physical Demands

  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, climbing ladders, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (can be more than 70%) of job.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to dust from donations.
