Summary This position is in the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Southeast Area (SEA), Southern Regional Research Center, Office of the Director in New Orleans, LA. In this position, you will providing administrative and clerical support in the areas of purchasing/financial management, contract and cooperative agreements, accounting and budget data entry/reporting, human resources, property, and other administrative areas. Responsibilities Serve as the timekeeper for location personnel and serves as a backup timekeeper for other supported locations. Keep employees informed of rules, policies, and regulations. Serve as liaison between the field supervisors and the administrative staff in human resources areas. Review financial reporting and compare with the term date, notifying staff of large balances that need to be addressed/spent down. Collect basic data for annual operating expense estimates and provide to the financial staff. Purchase equipment, supplies, and services, according to established policy. Arrange travel for staff, including schedule transportation, make room reservations, itineraries, and prepare travel authorizations and travel orders based on established policy. GS-05 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is maintaining detailed records or files for an office; answering phone calls or assisting visitors; and assisting with maintaining a calendar or appointments in an office environment. OR Education: Successful completion of a four-year course of study above high school. OR A combination of education and experience as described above. GS-06 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is providing administrative and clerical support to a team; reviewing correspondence for accuracy; and maintaining detailed records or files for an office environment. GS-07 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience administering financial management activities; participating in budget preparation; supporting human resources functions; and serving as the primary administrative business process point of contact for the location. All applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
