This role will lead biotech and pharmaceuticals sector investments supporting the Healthcare Long/Short Fund at Seligman Investments, part of Columbia Threadneedle Investments, an asset manager with over $1 trillion in assets under management and administration. Our team has presence in New York, Menlo Park, Miami, and Boston.Job DescriptionKey ResponsibilitiesLead biotech and pharmaceuticals sector coverage reporting to the Healthcare Portfolio ManagerDevelop investment theses by researching the industry and specific companies through medical and scientific due diligence, channel checks, earnings calls, company meetings, conferences and sell-side eventsAbility to accurately analyze complex medical literature, scientific data, statistical models and quickly distill key information that will impact investment decisionsCommunicate effectively research and new developments on a daily basis and track information about sector, companies, drug classes, regulatory and reimbursement decisions in a central repositoryCreate valuation analyses on sector companies to arrive at price targets for existing holdings and price discrepancies on prospective holdings, based on fundamental drivers and a consistent valuation approachDevelop trade recommendations rooted in carefully analyzed risk/ rewardDeep understanding of financial statements and ability to create and maintain detailed financial modelsStrong work ethic, highest integrity, drive for results, entrepreneurial spirit, intellectual curiosity and honesty contributing to a positive culture and team environmentRequired Qualifications5+ years in the biotechnology/ pharmaceutical sector either in clinical, scientific, financial services, or industry capacity2+ years of experience as a dedicated investment analyst covering biotech/ pharmaceuticals for an institutional asset managerPreferred QualificationsExperience covering both biotech and pharmaceuticals across all key therapeutic areas for a hedge fundExperience with private investments and derivativesAdvanced degree (eg, MS, PharmD, PhD, MD)
