The Prospect Research Manager works as an integral member of the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) s Development team by providing strategic input and accurate information that allows AWF to set goals and formulate better fundraising strategies. This role will translate data into usable, actionable information for the formation and execution of fundraising and prospect management strategies and measures of success. The Prospect Research Manager serves as a subject matter expert on prospect research practices and tools, including attending relevant conferences and trainings, and holding membership in appropriate organizations.

What You ll Do With AWF:

Research Management

  • Manage the implementation of prospect management data projects by developing a well-defined prospect tracking, rating and mining system through Raiser s Edge to maximize the impact of AWF s information and systems; develop and monitor strategies for maintaining records and prospect management assignments that relate directly to the goals and targets of AWF s development team.
  • Establish a Prospect Research Policy & Ethics guideline to inform ethical decision making related to researching donors and/or prospects.
  • Create a culture of reliable and consistent data by ensuring prospect ratings are clean and up to date in Raiser s Edge.
  • Supervise, mentor, and conduct performance management appraisal of the Prospect Research Associate.
  • Review and improve internal processes and SOPs related to research requests and tracking.
Development Support
  • Collaborate with Development and Data Services staff to improve biographical and wealth data collection, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Support growth in new markets through onboarding of new tools, mining existing donor pool, mapping relationships and creating a streamlined process for reporting out on leads.
  • In collaboration with Donor Engagement Officers, create and track the success of portfolio priority groups utilizing Target Analytics to inform our fundraising efforts.
  • Manage the Corporation and Foundation's internal donor and prospect rating system.
  • Support the Nominating and Governance committee in managing, updating and tracking board prospects and providing research to prepare committee members to meet board prospects.
  • Support the Director, Major Gifts in identifying and tracking AWF Leadership Council prospects.
Your Requirements to Qualify:
  • Bachelor s degree.
  • 4+ years of donor research experience.
  • Strong donor research skills and familiarity with research resources
  • Experience with Blackbaud products including Raiser s Edge and Research Point.
  • Proficiency with LexisNexis, I-Wave, Wealth-Engine and other research tools required.
  • Inventive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.


Physical RequirementsEssential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. Near visual acuity to review documentation, ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.

Working EnvironmentJob is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting.
