Position: Estimator (HVAC and Plumbing)
Location: Beltsville, MD

Job Summary:
This position will work directly under our Vice President of Pre-Construction in the New Construction division that primarily performs plan & spec and design / assist bidding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Listed below is a brief outline of your anticipated job description. In addition to the items listed below, you will be expected to perform any other duties asked of you that pertain to estimating or bidding jobs.
Attend pre-bid walk through s and/or team scope review meetings and understand the complete scope of work required, with sometimes-limited information.
Preparing detailed and accurate scopes of work/proposals.
Reviewing take-offs, drawings and specs for accuracy.
Submitting bid questions (RFI s) to the general contractors in a timely fashion.
Preparing scopes for our subs and vendors.
Evaluate bids of sub-contractor and vendors for completeness of scope of work, schedule, and compliance with specifications or other bid requirements.
Prepare accurate estimates in our Excel bid format spreadsheet.
Assist the other estimators in solving problems.
Prepare spec write ups on larger jobs, highlighting any items of concern or items of high dollar value.
Review addendums and incorporate into estimates. Ensure that addendums are received by subs and vendors in a timely fashion.
Ensure that we have proper sub and vendor coverage and that they have all pertinent bid information prior to bid day.
Prepare or assist in preparing bid Alternates and Unit Prices. Ensure that all alternates and unit prices are received by subs and vendors prior to bid day.
Prepare value engineering analysis in anticipation of the customer s best interest.
Assist the project managers with the estimate after bid award through an effective turnover meeting.
Responsible for making sure that our estimating computers are accurate and up to date on material costs and labor factors.
Provide suggestions on improvement of our current computerized estimate format, implement acceptable suggestions.
Qualifications:
7 plus years Mechanical estimating background with HVAC and Plumbing.
Thorough knowledge of estimating both Plan & Spec projects.
Able to fill in the blanks bidding off an incomplete set of documents.
Able to type efficiently.
Familiarity with Microsoft family of products (Word, Excel especially).
Working knowledge of Quote Express, Quick Pen or similar estimating software. Experience with Quote Express on screen software a plus, but not required.
Produce accurate, timely and competitive estimates with minimal data.
Able to work independently.
Able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills with customers, vendors, sub-contractors, general contractors, owners and fellow employees.
