The client is a global provider of world-leading energy technologies. Their switchgear, UPS, ASCO ATS, and EPMS software is some of the most recognizable in the world used by industry leaders.


The Technical Installation Engineer (Field Service Technician) is a field-based position that will be responsible for the installation of the applications that run their equipment. Each of these data centers is a 9-12 month build cycle with over 10,000 sq ft of IT space at each site. They will come into the data center at the RL2 stage (pre-energization) to do the work running anywhere from a couple days to a couple week depending on the scope and complexity of the buildout. They may return for a second diagnostic trip if there are any reported issues. Reporting to the Sr Project Manager overseeing multiple concurrent data center build-outs, this Technical Installation Engineer will work independently and perform the onsite uploads (applications, firmware, device drivers). While not a programmer, they will have be a technical troubleshooter working with the client ETMX team. They will manage their own schedule in line with the project schedules for both initial installs and upgrades. Travel will be extensive to locations across the US.


Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain schedules using Microsoft Project
  • Change the IP address of your computer to be able to communicate and program equipment.
  • Basic programming of Modbus to include:
  • Setting the IP, Subnet, and Gateway address
  • Generating a new password
  • Setting the baud rate and stop bits
  • Basic parameter changes
  • Log into power monitoring software to generate reports for required dates and times through data export. After generating the report and downloading collected data upload for review.
  • Set up a laptop and connect to PQM (power quality meters) for recording data.
  • Install PQM meters on bus bars to record data during load banking.
  • At completion of testing download saved data and upload to the RX website for review.
  • The ability to troubleshoot communication issues.


Required Skills:


  • 3+ years experience in a technical role, preferably with some desktop computing and administration of computer applications
  • Solid understanding of various installation processes, systems and methodologies.
  • Exceptional technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear understanding and knowledge of up-to-date electronic, cable, satellite and telecommunications systems
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to train on company-specific technical equipment
  • NFPA 70e ready, certification desired
  • OSHA 30 ready, certified desired
  • Physical stamina when standing or kneeling for extended periods of time
  • Problem-solving skills to handle repairs and equipment issues during service calls


Travel to six regional locations will be required, typically visiting multiple locations in a given week. The estimate is 75% with the remainder from home.
