Job Description

Boeing Commercial Airplanes is looking for Decorative Painters to join our team to apply exterior finish to commercial aircraft in Everett, Seattle, and Renton, WA.

As a decorative aircraft painters in the hangar who apply the exterior finish to commercial/military aircraft. You will be sequencing work, providing guidance and assistance for the complete painting and finishing of multiple aircraft. Types of painting may include free-form, MICA, gradient fade (layout only), blend fade (painting only), and decal application.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Employment in this position also requires lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, rotation of head/neck, standing, walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, exposure to noise, atmospheric conditions, elevated platforms and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes and ears.

  • Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Obtain daily work assignment from lead or supervisor.

  • Decorative painters apply exterior finish to commercial aircraft. They prepare the exterior surfaces of airplanes for painting by cleaning, stripping, abrading, and chemically treating as necessary, masking, then apply the paints and finishes and touch-up details.

  • Types of painting may include free-form, MICA, gradient fade (layout only), blend fade (painting only), and decal application.

  • Employment in this position also requires lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, rotation of head/neck, standing, walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, exposure to noise, atmospheric conditions, elevated platforms and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes and ears.

  • Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Obtain daily work assignment from lead or supervisor.

  • Obtain appropriate engineering drawings for assigned job. Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., cranes, scissor lifts, elevated work platforms, wing stands, tail stands, and high ranger) in order to access work.

  • Prepare exterior of aircraft for finishing by removing tape and seal residue using solvents or by abrading (sanding), and removing Temporary Protective Coating using alkaline cleaner and high pressure water spray.

  • Clean exterior of aircraft using a mixture of various solvents and/or chemical/paint strippers. Prepare aircraft skins for application of chemical etching, by power abrading using jitterbug sander and Scotch-Brite. Apply chemicals and neutralize with water per specifications and drawing requirements.

  • Seal areas that may have been omitted in previous processes such as final assembly travelers. Verify aircraft is ready for exterior finish by selling in-process inspections to Boeing Quality Assurance (QA) and Customer.

  • Mask off areas that do not require finish per Installation Plan (IP) and drawing requirements. Wipe areas to be painted with tack cloth to remove any dust particles. Apply conversion coating per specifications and drawing requirements.

  • Clean and adjust spray equipment and ensure that equipment is functioning properly. Apply primer and topcoat to engineering and QA specifications (e.g., thickness, gloss, appearance) prior to laying out templates and patterns for decorative finish.

  • Lay out areas for decorative finish using patterns, templates, stencils, and laser and apply paint to designated locations (e.g., body, tail, wings, engine cowlings).

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner (e.g., solvents, thinners, paints).

  • Clean up work areas and re-stock masking and painting supplies. Maintain personal and tool certifications.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience finishing and painting in either Aircraft, Automotive or Marine Industry.

  • Ability to pass a complete fall protection training and work with heights of seventy feet or more and not exceed weight restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and other technical data.

  • Experience working from heights and using fall protection equipment.

  • Ability to support frequent standing, walking, lifting, and working at heights with or without equipment assistance.

  • Ability to climb ladders at heights up to 15 feet and stairs on a regular basis.

  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment.

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Shift:

This position is for variable shifts.

Summary pay range: $30.00 - $47.56 per hour
