**HELPING HANDS ATTENDANT**

Under the supervision of the Center Manager, Team Lead PCA, and Home Care Coordinator. Responsible for assisting participants with laundry, housekeeping, and/or meal preparation, and other duties as assigned.

**PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**HOME CARE**

* Assists with set up/meal preparation and encourages adequate nutrition and fluid intake.

* Performs light housekeeping of participant home such as making beds, changing linens, laundry, vacuum, removing trash, washing dishes, cleaning bathroom/kitchen, etc. to promote a clean, safe and healthy environment.

* Advises supervisor of any mistreatment of participants or misappropriation of property. Immediately reports to supervisor or management staff any participant or allegation of mistreatment, abuse/neglect or misappropriation.

* Works collaboratively with all other departments to ensure that the needs of participants are consistently met and that a clean, sanitary, and safe environment is maintained at all times.

* Build and maintains trusting relationships with participants and their families/caregivers, and provides emotional support as needed.

* Identifies/reports safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action as appropriate.

* Uses Universal Precautions at all times.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

* Helping Hands Attendants are not required to do any heavy lifting of furniture, wiping of walls or baseboards.

* No exchange of money, credit, or debit cards.

* No shopping or paying bills for participants or caregivers.

* Helping Hands Attendants are not responsible for cleaning up after caregivers or other family members.

**OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:**

**CLEAN BEDROOM**

* Change bed linen only in participants room

* Make bed

* Light dusting of bedside tables

* Hanging/folding clothes

* Laundry for participant only

**CLEAN KITCHEN**

* Mop kitchen floors

* Sweep kitchen floor

* Empty trash

* Wipe counters and kitchen tables

* Wipe surface of stove

* Wash participants dishes only if meals are prepared by participant or Helping Hands Attendant

**CLEAN BATHROOM**

* Sweep and mop floor

* Empty trash

* Clean commode/toilet

* Clean sink and vanity

* Wash out bathtub

**CLEAN LIVING ROOM**

* Vacuum floor/hallway

* Light dusting of tables only

**JOB QUALIFICATIONS**:

* Must have acquired high school diploma or equivalent.

* Must have a minimum of one year of experience working with a frail or elderly population.

* Must be able to multi-task, work independently and in a team setting.

* Must be a self- motivator and organized.

* Must have current valid drivers license and insurance, Michigan preferred.

* Required to have reliable transportation to make home visits.

* Exposure to, or previous relevant experience or training and skills in housekeeping, good health practices, observation, reporting, and record keeping. Additionally, skills, knowledge, and/or experience with food preparation, safe food handling procedures, and reporting and identifying abuse and neglect are highly desirable.

* Must maintain current knowledge of and adhere to required regulatory compliance by governing entities, HIPAA and PACE specific regulations.

**SPECIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:**

* Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language and follow written and oral instructions.

* Working knowledge of Universal Precautions.

* Effective verbal and written communication skills and good organizational skills.

* Willingness to accept additional responsibility.

* Ability to work effectively and in a collegial manner with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team.

* Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

**MENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS**:

* Pressures related to dealing with the concerns and emotional needs of participants and their families, fulfilling scheduling requirements, etc.

* Ability to relate to those participants with dementia and/or developmentally disabled.

**WORKING CONDITIONS:**

* Normal participant care environment with minimal exposure to communicable diseases when using standards precaution methods.

* Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.

* May be subject to exposure and handling of infectious waste, disease, conditions, or hazardous chemicals, etc. including potential to TB, AIDS, Bedbugs, and/or Hepatitis B virus.

* Work may involve occasional travel to multiple homes.
