Kids In Distress is looking to hire a full-time Family Support Counselor responsible for providing education, care coordination and support services to prenatal women and children up to the age of three (3). ABOUT THE HEALTHY START PROGRAM

KID Healthy Start provides expectant mothers and women with children up to age 3 with the resources, support, and education they need to ensure health and well-being. KID Healthy Start also provides counseling to at-risk clients with the goals of reducing infant mortality, disease, low birth weight, and pre-term birth while improving pregnancy and child development.

As a Family Support Counselor you will provide education and care coordination as defined in the Healthy Start Standards and Guidelines, including, advocating for and supporting pregnant women in order to achieve positive birth outcomes, child health and development monitoring, father's involvement, in-home education of Parenting, Breastfeeding, Smoking Cessation, Inter-conceptional Counseling, and referrals for supportive counseling. The Family Support Counselor must be available to families/caregivers on their caseload and maintain all documentation required by the program and related contracts.
Skills / Requirements

  • Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Creole.
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree and at least two (2) years of experience preferably working with at-risk and diverse families. Knowledge of South Florida's social service system including six (6) months of parenting skills training.
  • Coursework in child development, parent education, family dynamics, and abuse and neglect are critical, with additional experience highly beneficial.
  • Ability to work on an independent basis conducting home visits within the community.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours which includes evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedules of participants referred to the program.
  • Must be computer literate and have the ability to complete documents in Microsoft Word. This position also requires strong organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Must have transportation and be willing to visit clients in their homes. Valid Florida Driver's License with full access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage (proof of insurance is required).
