Job Details

Our Company is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Construction Estimator who is customer-focused and dedicated to elevating the customer experience with measurable objectives that support the company s long-term vision. The Construction Estimator manages the estimating process from bid request to completion for residential renovation and new construction as well as hospitality commercial projects. Responsible for collecting as much information from the client or sales team as necessary to develop an accurate and timely estimate that ts the client s needs. Ensures that projects are bid with accurate pricing, scope, speci cation, and production rates and timelines. Responsible for maintaining an accurate and reliable automated database-driven estimating system and producing bids in a timely manner. Assists the senior estimator in developing and maintaining subcontractor rate agreements to facilitate the estimating process. Responsible for e ectively communicating with the operations team a clear scope of work to help the team understand the speci cs of each project. Work with operations manager and senior estimator to keep estimates in line with actuals and industry trends.

  • Understands client s needs, budget, and timeline.
  • Manages the estimating process on all assigned projects as per JLV standards, fully utilizing JLV s estimating template with the project management software (CoConstruct, Buildertrend, etc.).
  • Solicit subcontractors and suppliers through phone and email, providing quali ed bidders in each necessary trade and sending notices, reminders and drawing updates; upload and manage revisions.
  • Meeting/coordinating with subcontractors on site to facilitate the bidding process.
  • Ensures that all estimates have received bids as necessary or current pricing built into the estimate template.
  • Prepares proposals and sales documents.
  • Participates in pre-construction meetings with senior estimator, operations manager (OM), and project manager (PM).
  • Works with senior estimator and operations manager to ensure that estimates are in line with actual costs and industry trends as it relates to project costs.
  • Maintains project pipeline, keeping it up to date within our internal project management systems.
  • Fosters an enthusiastic and creative "can do" attitude and shares the responsibility for JLV and the estimating department s success in reaching its goals.
  • Performs other duties and supports special projects, as assigned.

Education, Experience, & Qualifications :

  • Is personally aligned with JLV s core values and demonstrates them with intention and action.
  • Experienced estimator with a minimum of 3-5 years with a general contracting company or similar.
  • Excellence in customer service.
  • Displays a genuine interest in understanding the speci c needs and wishes of the client.
  • BS or BA degree, preferably in construction management or engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely, and personably, both in written and verbal format.
  • Ability to understand architectural intent and work through low levels of detail; ability to read and interpret architectural plans, details, and speci cations, and see three-dimensional perspectives from two-dimensional data.
  • Possesses a full range of computer literacy and can organize a variety of data.
  • Experience with estimating in an automated software system utilizing a database.
  • Thorough understanding of construction speci cations both within JLV and the industry.
  • Comprehension of all units of measure; able to convert between various units of measure.
  • Strong mathematical skills, grounded in algebra, geometry, and basic math.
  • Computer literacy, computer estimating, and competency in Google Workspace or Microsoft O ce; willingness and ability to learn various project management/construction softwares (e.g. CoConstruct, Buildertrend, Square Takeo , etc.).
  • Able to produce accurate and thorough takeo s from a wide range of drawings.
  • Able to foresee problems and di culties and solve them proactively.
  • Knowledge of building materials materials in the industry and JLV-speci c materials.
  • Knowledge of equipment used in the industry.
  • Team player who takes feedback constructively.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee will need to regularly lift and/or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 75lbs.
  • The employee is also regularly required to communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret data (emails, blueprints, memos, letters, etc.); maintain visual attention and mental concentration for significant periods of time.

Work Environment

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required. Workdays and hours coincide with job site and/or office hours.
  • This job operates mostly in the office, with occasional visits to construction sites reviewing progress and meeting with project stakeholders.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices.
