Job Description

  1. Provide routine health care services for campers and staff including: dispensing of medication, assessment and treatment of illness/minor injuries per physician s standing orders.
  2. Assist arranging and transporting sick or injured campers/staff to appropriate treatment facilities (Physician s office or Hospital ER).
  3. Communicate with parents, staff, and Directors regarding the condition of sick or injured campers and staff.
  4. Supervise health care staff including health care aide and first aiders.
  5. Maintain accurate Infirmary records


Responsibilities Include

  • Dispensing medication before meals and bedtime. (approx 10-20 at Breakfast and Bed, and a few at lunch and dinner)
  • Assessment and treatment of injured/sick at set Infirmary times and PRN. (We have campers and staff try to come for routine stuff before lunch and before dinner)
  • Recording of treatment and medication distribution. (e-charting and paper MAR - it s easier)
  • Supervising cleaning and maintenance of Health Care Facility rooms including bathrooms and kitchen area, and infirmary laundry. This may, at rare times, require the Nurse to help perform these functions. (We have junior staff who are assigned to help the Infirmary, that includes daily cleanings)
  • Arranging meals for sick campers and staff. (Staff is in charge of making it happen, we are in-charge of ensuring the person gets a meal)
  • Communication with parents.(via text, email, and phone)
  • Assisting with ordering and stocking of healthcare-related supplies. (Several times a summer we reorder supplies)
  • Follow policies and practices of the Camp Onas Health Care Plan and Health Care
  • Procedures.(available when interested)



Job Requirements

1. RN or LPN: provide documentation of degree and licensure (GNs will be considered particularly if there is a plan for licensure)

2. Certification in ARC First Aid and CPR

3. If offered a position, you will be required to consent to the following screenings: a. A check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry b. Completing a voluntary disclosure statement developed by the American Camp Association for camp staff and supplied by Camp Onas.


Dates of employment for the 2024 summer

June 22-August 17th. Additional dates for optional trainings: Wilderness First Aid Training (6/17-6/18) and/or Lifeguard training (6/21-6/22).


This is an overnight position with one day off per week. Indoor room w private bath. Our nurse is an active part of the camp experience and well respected by the staff, campers, and the Directors (one of whom is also a nurse and will be providing education and support throughout the summer).


In years past we hired one nurse, but this summer we anticipate hiring two new-to-practice nurses. Friends are encouraged to apply together and may be asked to split or share rooms.
