The New Orleans JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness center and pool, a New Orleans early childhood education leader, a fun-filled summer day camp, and so much more. It is a place for adults to take an exercise class, an art class or a dance class. A place for children and teens to experience learning through enrichment classes, sports leagues, family activities, and summer camps. The JCC is built on Jewish values but is welcome to everyone.

The mission of the New Orleans Jewish Community Center is to promote and ensure the well-being of our Jewish community and to instill an understanding of Judaism and its heritage by providing a Center where all can enjoy, learn, experience, and share in quality activities in a Jewish environment. The New Orleans JCC is seeking an innovative, experienced, and knowledgeable Food Service Manager who will report to the Chief Operations Officer and whose primary responsibility will be to oversee the daily operation of the New Orleans JCC Cafe and food service program.

What You'll Do:
  • Recruit, train, and manage food service employees.
  • Adhere to and awareness of kosher and kosher-style food.
  • Check supplies and equipment quantity and quality.
  • Manage budgets and approve expenditures.
  • Develop and communicate standard operating procedures.
  • Establish standards for customer service.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant legal, health, and safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Keep and update relevant documents and records.
  • Create reports for senior management.
  • Extensive experience in the kitchen.
  • Schedule employee work hours to ensure that all shifts are adequately covered.
  • Complete payroll and maintain employment records.
  • Ensure that customers are served quality food promptly.
  • Inspect all work areas regularly to ensure food health and safety regulations compliance.
  • Take inventory of food supplies and other consumables, order necessary supplies as needed, and receive deliveries.
  • Tally all cash and charge slips accurately.
  • Review sales records to determine which menu items are most profitable.
  • Arrange cleaning and maintenance services, including trash removal, pest control, deep cleaning, and equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Switch off all lights and enable the alarm system at the close of business.

What You'll Bring:
  • A bachelors degree in hotel and restaurant management, food service management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Food protection manager certification (FPMC) or food service management professional (FMP) accreditation is advantageous.
  • Proven experience working in the food service industry.
  • Sound knowledge of labor laws as well as food health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding leadership and management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be available weekday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, to coordinate and supervise staff during prime JCC events and rentals.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to meet rigorous deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, administrative skills, and high attention to detail.
  • Be detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and willing to learn and teach.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Google Workspace.
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, able to analyze situations, responding quickly to deliver effective solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Represent New Orleans JCC professionally and positively at all times.
  • Ability to develop and manage external relationships.
Work Schedule:
Flexible Schedule Required to include Evenings and Weekends as Needed.
