  • Job Position Summary


The Automotive Service Technician will perform the routine inspection and service of vehicles and equipment in addition to procuring automotive parts and supplies.


  • Duties


  • Automotive Service
  • Conduct routine inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure that they are in compliance with organizational policies and governmental laws
  • Test parts and systems to ensure that they function properly
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems using charts, schematic diagrams, technical manuals, diagnostic equipment, and intuition based on experience
  • Perform preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment as necessary
  • Perform routine maintenance and service of vehicles and equipment
  • Complete vehicles and equipment inspection and service reports
  • Procure automotive parts and supplies
  • Maintain an adequate stock of automotive parts and supplies
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Other
  • Perform the receipt, review, filing, storage, retrieval, retention, transfer, copying, disbursement, and disposal of files and records related to the job position as appropriate
  • Ensure the integrity, security, and confidentiality of files and records related to the job position
  • Support the organization in continuous quality improvement
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

  • - Knowledge, Skills, and Ability


  • Knowledge in automotive parts and systems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components
  • Knowledge in the proper use of hand, pneumatic, and power tools
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred
  • Computer literate
  • Physical stamina and strength to load, unload, and secure heavy materials and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of weight
  • Ability to maintain a current and valid California driver license with the appropriate endorsements with a motor vehicle record containing no more than 1 minor or non-moving violations within the last year and 0 major violations within the last 3 years
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics
  • Ability to clearly, confidently, and convincingly present analyses, reports, and recommendations to management
  • Ability to work well with others


  • -Education and Experience


An individual must have achieved at least one of the following sets of requirements:

  • Postsecondary non-degree award and at least 2 years of work experience in a related occupation
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of work experience in a related occupation


An individual with any of the following education or experience is preferred:

  • Certification from the ASE ("National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence"):
  • Automobile And Light Truck Certification Tests (A Series)
  • Auto Maintenance And Light Repair Certification Test (G1)
  • Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests (T Series)
  • Certification from OSHA ("Occupational Safety and Health Administration")
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry
  • CDL ("Commercial driver license") with the appropriate endorsements
  • Forklift operator certification

  • Seeing: Must be able to read various documents and computer terminals
  • Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to effectively communicate with others
  • Stand/Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Sitting: Must be able to sit occasionally
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift heavy objects on a regular basis
  • Bending: Must be able to bend over vehicles and equipment
  • Climbing: Must be able to climb onto vehicles and equipment
  • Crawling: Must be able to crawl under vehicles and equipment
  • Stooping: Must be able to stoop next to vehicles and equipment
  • Other Movements: Must be able to operate tools, machinery, and equipment as they relate to the job position


  • -Working Conditions


  • Working conditions include work environments that are typical of the industry, such as plants, shops, offices, and other environments.
  • Various working conditions will be encountered when working off site.


  • Compensation


  • Regular basic pay rate of approximately $23.60 to $37.00 per hour which is equivalent to $49,088.00 to $76,960.00 per year on a regular full-time basis
  • Annual leave for personal reasons, vacation, holiday, sick, family, bereavement, reproductive loss events, jury duty, or military leave

  • Dental insurance coverage with 100% employer contribution toward employee premiums
