**Description**

**Essential Functions:**

* Provide an outstanding guest experience to internal and external customers.

* Patrol all buildings and grounds of National Aquarium 24 hours a day.

* Document in a written report any security related incidents or medical responses occurring at or related to National Aquarium.

* Respond to emergencies and alarms on site, providing security assistance and crowd control in accordance with department policies, coordinating response of police, fire and emergency medical services as needed.

* Respond to medical emergencies on site, providing an appropriate level of first aid care within scope of training.

* Respond to disaster situations/scenarios on site in accordance with National Aquarium Incident Plans. Must be available for emergency recall in the event of a disaster.

* Perform dispatch functions for National Aquarium, to include monitoring and dispatching radio calls, monitoring surveillance cameras and access control doors.

* Maintain vehicle control on both piers and in Gunther Circle.

* Maintain crowd control when required.

* Assist in maintaining daily security logs, key control forms, and the lost and found program as directed by Security Supervisors.

* Assist other aquarium departments by communicating inspection finds via Security Supervisors. To include, but not limited to, Life Support, Animal Safety, Facility Abnormalities

* Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the security function and reporting duties.

* Conduct opening and closing of National Aquarium employee and public areas for normal business hours and special events.

* Observe and report any violations of company policies, security risks, or safety hazards to the appropriate managers.

* Adhere to the uniform and grooming standards.

* Respond to calls for lost or found children and provide safety and security for those individuals until reunited with adult chaperons or parents.

* Supports and assists Safety/Security Manager:

+ Response and processing regarding all guest, staff and collection safety incidents.

- Investigates, reports and follows-up.

- Assists in fact finding reporting and documentation.

- As a part of routine inspections reports findings related to facility and life support concerns

- Compliance with all federal, state and local codes relating to National Aquarium guests and staff.

- Inspects all work areas to insure a safe environment.

- Provides feedback to Safety/Security Manager.

* Completes certification programs for:

+ Crowd Control Manager, per State of Maryland Fire Prevention Code.

+ First Aid, CPR/AED Lay Responder Certification.

* Supports the Guest Experience by being an informed National Aquarium representative. Stays current on news and information by utilizing resources such as the Daily Navigator, Plan of the Day, Morning Huddle, Cascaded Information and Making Waves.

* Familiar and complies with ADA regulations.

* Other duties as assigned.

**Required Qualifications:**

* Knowledge: High School Diploma. 1 year Security experience preferred.

* Customer Service experience is a plus.

* All officers are expected to avail themselves of developmental trainings that may assist in the performance of their duties (i.e. Conflict Management, CPR/AED First-Aid Training, Leadership Training).

* Become familiar with Fire Board, CCTV, Access Control and other operations systems, particularly in enabling/disabling administration of remote areas of the facility relative to these systems.

* Computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).

* Good communication skills both verbal and written.

* Problem Solving: Responds to urgent and emergency situations and follows appropriate procedure. Handles disorderly persons or groups. Ability to deal with emotionally charged situations (lost child/family member).

* Human Relations: Daily contact with staff, visitors and people on property.

* Accountability: Accountable for the security of the buildings/property/collection.

* Human Resources: No supervision of others.

* Operational Status: Essential
