Job Description

Responsible for supervising the operation, maintenance and management of Biological Sciences plant facilities. Provides expertise in plant growth requirements for greenhouse, field, and lab conditions to faculty and students in support of teaching, research, and outreach. This position will be full-time with benefits.

Required Qualifications

High level of expertise in plant growth requirements under greenhouse and field conditions, including plant propagation, pest management and maintenance; knowledge of basic botany and nomenclature of plants; demonstrated knowledge of greenhouse operations including maintenance of facility; ability to exercise judgment and work independently; ability to effectively communicate with a diverse clientele; ability to mentor and supervise students and greenhouse staff.

Preferred Qualifications

4-year or advanced degree in horticulture, plant science or a related field; at least two years' experience in greenhouse facilities; experience in plant science research or research support including experimental design and data management; experience in teaching support involving the propagation, maintenance and display of plant materials for teaching purposes; previous budget preparation experience; previous pesticide management experience and certification as a pesticide applicator by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; previous experience in a supervisory or mentorship role.
