Human Resources Manager


Job Details

Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, LLP, an internationally recognized intellectual property law firm located in Falls Church, VA, is seeking a Human Resources Manager. The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for a wide range of human resources functions throughout the firm. The Human Resources Manager position will be a full-time, exempt position, and will report to the Executive Director with indirect reporting to the Firm s Management Committee and Partnership.

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in Human Resources or related field with exposure to employee relations required.

Professional certification such as HRCI or SMRM-CP/SCP preferred.

Prior work experience in a law firm or other professional services environment is a plus.

Five to seven years of a professional experience in the HR field is required.

Other Requirements


Fundamental knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral).

Discretion and good judgement when handling confidential information.

Able to multitask by prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment and completing tasks under time pressure when necessary.

Strong attention to detail.

Availability during normal BSKB business hours required.

Ability to work hours beyond the normal workday when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

Employee Relations

Provide advice and counsel on employee relations policies related to EEO, performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, personnel conflicts, grievances, and separations.

Handle employee complaints and provide conflict resolution through investigations and employee counseling.

Act as a liaison between employees and management to create positive work environment and implement HR best practices in compliance with state, federal, and regulatory labor laws.

Coordinate annual performance evaluation processes for staff and attorneys. Monitor industry compensation data and conduct and analyze compensation surveys.

Human Resources Policies, Procedures, & Compliance

Maintain and update employee handbook. Identify ways to improve firm policies and procedures.

Communicate and serve as point of contact for policies pertaining to Human Resources, compensation, and benefits.

Ensure compliance with EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, and other state or federal employment laws.

Employment Lifecycle

Assist with identifying talent needs throughout the firm.

Manage talent acquisition process including posting open positions, setting up interviews, and following up with candidates.

Perform background checks, reference checks, and I-9 verifications.

Maintain and update personnel records and compliance paperwork.

Coordinate new hire orientations and training programs.

Plan and implement employee engagement activities and maintain employee wellness program.

Conduct exit interviews and off boarding process.

Benefits Administration

Administer all group benefits including health, dental, disability, and retirement plans. Answer benefit questions and communicate with insurance vendors.

Negotiate new benefits and benefit premiums in accordance with the needs of the firm. Manage open enrollment process to ensure best results for the firm and the employees.

Coordinate benefit year-end compliance tasks.

Manage FMLA, COBRA, Short Term/Long Term Disability claims, Worker s Comp.

Payroll

Maintain employee records pertaining to payroll (new hires, terminations, rate increases, bonuses etc.).

Responsible for payroll administration including payroll liabilities such as payroll taxes, deductions, and third-party payments.

Collaborative with HR and payroll software provider to ensure accurate payroll records.

Other duties as assigned.
