Overview

The Operations Trainee will learn and understand all aspects of our company s business by working in all areas including dispatch, fleet maintenance, and operations. This position will work under the supervision of all Departments Manager and personnel to gain knowledge and experience to be established in a future permanent position with the company.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive training and perform duties in several departments including Dispatch, Equipment Maintenance, Plant Operations and Quality Control
  • Observe and learn from experienced workers to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for performance of department duties
  • Visit current potential job sites to observe product placement and improve customer interaction
  • Learn company policies and practices that affect each phase of business
  • Monitor performance progress with management and key trainers

  • Global Responsibilities:

  • Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position
  • This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs
  • Qualifications:

    Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience:

  • Previous construction industry or related work experience preferred
  • Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of staff throughout the company
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making ability
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure
  • Demonstrated experience working with basic software packages such as Excel, Outlook, and MS Word
  • Working Conditions:

  • Operation within a fast-paced environment
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions
  • Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants and laboratories
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required
  • Local travel required

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to frequently bend in order to obtain samples from stockpiles or ground, climb ladders with buckets of admixtures, and push wheelbarrows of concrete
  • Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment
  • Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary
  • Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessary
