Position Overview:

The HOPE Athletic Director is responsible for the creation and operation of the HOPE Christian Schools (HOPE) athletic program. S/he will serve as leader of the athletic program to develop, implement, and operate policies, programs, and budgets promoting the faith, academic, and character development of each scholar through interscholastic athletic competition. S/he will be a champion for the HOPE Athletic Program Philosophy Statement as follows:

HOPE Christian Schools Athletic Program is a Christ-centered program that embraces the wisdom and the knowledge of understanding the benefits of a healthy soul, mind, and body. We believe athletics can inspire young people to know that they can overcome difficult situations and circumstances and rise to meet any challenge not just in athletics but also in life. (Jeremiah 29:11) We have a strong belief that it is a privilege to play sports, not a right, and it is a way to help children reach their full potential. Through athletics, we encourage a healthy environment by influencing positive change in academic outcomes. Student-athletes will exemplify the 3Cs: Christ, College, and Character by being leaders on their teams, in their schools, and throughout their communities.

This position reports to the HOPE Executive Director and collaborates with the Open Sky functional team members, Regional Director of Operations, Principals, campus based extracurricular leaders, and coaching staff.

Essential Responsibilities and Competencies

General Administration

  • Develop and maintain athletic program policies, procedures, rules and regulations, ensuring alignment and adherence to the HOPE Christian School mission, policies, legal, financial, and compliance requirements, along with WIAA and other governing body requirements.
  • Develop and maintain athletic program handbook and meet with Principals, coaches and advisors to review policies and other necessary conditions for the total operation of the co-curricular program.
  • Establish requirements of eligibility for participation in all activities/athletics and support the coaches to ensure the verification of each participant's eligibility
  • Develop standards and training to recruit, select and evaluate coaches, advisors, and other staff members; support school Principals in recruiting, selecting and evaluating coaches, advisors, and staff; provide training and mentoring to coaches, advisors, and staff.
  • Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all athletics in the middle school and in conjunction with the conference and state guidelines
  • Publish and distribute a co-curricular athletic calendar, which may include summer programming
  • Develop standards for transportation and if applicable, arrange transportation for all away co-curricular functions, in coordination with school staff
  • Investigate and resolve reported code violations; and provide the mechanism for appeals of such investigations. Counsel school staff and students on code violations
  • Arrange all details of visiting participants' needs for locker facilities and provide other assistance as appropriate
  • Hire officials, game workers, and security staff as needed for events and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of activities/athletics in conjunction with the school teams for all scheduled home games
  • Act as a liaison for the HOPE athletic program and the WIAA
  • Keep records of the results of contests and maintain a record of participation for determination of appropriate awards and recognition
  • Maintain up-to-date communications through various methods, including activities website, newsletters, social media, school forums, and media promoting athletics and activities. Work collaboratively with Marketing and school teams
  • Create and maintain library of HOPE athletic program logos, marketing collateral, contest or performance program templates for use by schools or in tournaments
  • Monitor and mandate AED, CPR, First Aid certification course, WIAA rules exam, Concussion Management Plan, Emergency Action Plan, DPI mandatory reporting and district mandatory topic program for ALL staff
  • Maintain up-to-date records on participant fees, WIAA physical or alternate year cards, concussion release forms, emergency forms and code cards for all students - involved in co-curricular activities
  • Plan and supervise appropriate recognition programs for school and co-curriculars
Fiscal and Facility
  • Schedule field and building practice times in conjunction with the school teams
  • Coordinate with school and facilities teams on the quality and safety of facilities to enable practices and competitions.
  • Prepare and administer the co-curricular budget
  • Develop and administer policies and procedures for the proper handling, requisition, issuing, collecting, cleaning, and disposal of supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Supervise all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic programs and assume responsibility for the proper handling of funds according to standard accounting practices
  • Solicit, assign, and approve pay for all home contest workers and officials
Network Leadership
  • Inspire, motivate, and encourage key stakeholders
  • Build and sustain culture through a high performing athletic program that reflects the core values of the organization by exemplifying and expecting them from self and others
  • Leads the effort to build strong relationships, communicate, and collaborate with key stakeholders including scholars, staff, parents, and community members
  • Solicit a student and parent advisory committee for athletics
  • Contribute to a positive relationship with all parent booster clubs
  • Manage time, people, and resources efficiently and effectively
  • Provide support as needed to HOPE schools activities programming outside of athletics
Christian Character
  • Live and act as a biblical role model and HOPE Christians Schools representative in your life for our scholars, team members and community.
  • Agree to comply at all times with our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith
  • Agree to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team members
Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Education, Sports Management, or related field
  • 1 to 3 years of prior Athletic Department experience preferred, with a track record of success and proven results leading an extracurricular athletic league and/or department
  • At least 3 years of prior coaching experience in relevant sports
  • Business expertise related to budget creation & management and general business operations
  • Experience working with students and families in low-income communities
  • This is a 12-month position requiring summer work, along with evening and weekend hours
