The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Legal Affairs is responsible for providing all legal services required by DEP to fulfill its mission. The bureau is also responsible for identifying potential legal problems, bringing them to the attention of appropriate personnel, explaining options and the risks associated with each, and assisting staff in carrying out the actions decided upon by management. The selected candidate will assist DEP attorneys by performing legal research and appearing at administrative hearings and meetings. Subject areas include environmental law, real estate, land use, contracts, labor law, employment law, and energy law.

Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
