We are seeking a skilled Procurement Manager with expertise in the nutrition raw materials sector to join our team. This role is critical for ensuring the strategic sourcing of high-quality raw materials used in nutritional products, managing supplier relationships, and maintaining cost-effective procurement strategies. You will develop buying strategies and target stock levels by factoring in production forecasts, supplier performance, cash flow, and purchasing agreements to support production and achieve costs at or better than budget. This is a remote role with travel.


The ideal candidate will have a background in the nutrition industry, with deep knowledge of suppliers and market trends for raw materials such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, and other nutritional supplements.


Responsibilities Include:


Procurement

  • Manage purchasing strategy for raw materials and packaging.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with suppliers, source new suppliers and request quotes.
  • Develop cost savings opportunities while working with the team to maintain and improve quality. Drive process management.
  • Responsible for leading, conducting, analyzing, and making recommendations for ingredient RFPs.
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers to review their performance and strengthen the overall partnerships.
  • Assist in S&OP process.


Purchasing

  • Place purchase orders for ingredients and packaging based on MRP forecast, track order status, adjust ship dates and quantities as demand fluctuates.


Analysis

  • Follow marketplace trends in price, suppliers, and/or other conditions affecting supply and demand.
  • Monitor materials demand as production schedules and quantities change, suggest adjustments and make changes to POs as needed.
  • Evaluate current and upcoming costs to help identify, prioritize, and implement cost savings strategies in support of cost management initiatives.


Logistics

  • Arrange logistics for shipments not handled by the vendor. Track deliveries, keep the team informed of any potential delays while working to identify alternative solutions.


Organization

  • Maintain ERP system data, including orders, costs, receipts, inventory, shrinkage, and lot tracking.
  • Maintain all records related to vendors and POs including order acknowledgments, BOLs, freight quotes, etc., and be proactive about communication with all vendors.


Troubleshooting

  • Document and log any quality issues, submit claims to carriers or vendors for damages.
  • Pivot and act quickly on evaluating and acquiring alternate supplies as needed.


Manufacturing

  • Responsible for completing pre and postproduction inventory analysis, calculating scrap, reporting scrap, and presenting cost savings ideas based on findings to leadership.


Accounting

  • Review, receive, and process all POs at the end of the month. Reconcile all inventory as part of end of month close activities.
  • Other duties may arise from time to time and as may be assigned to the employee.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Nutrition Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years procurement experience with ingredients, specifically in nutrition preferred.
  • Experience at a consumer goods company or procurement for a manufacturer
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multitask.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, very responsive to emails.
  • A problem solver who likes to get things done efficiently.
  • A sense of excitement for working with a growing and value-driven supplement brand.


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience working in a start-up environment, preferably in the nutrition (VMS) industry.
  • CIPS or similar certification in procurement.
  • NetSuite experience
