Power Electronics Control Engineer

Delta Electronics (Americas) Ltd. is seeking a power electronics engineer to join our advanced Milan M. Jovanovi Power Electronics Lab, located in Research Triangle Park, NC. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and verify your ideas to enhance the performance of next-generation power electronics across various applications. These applications include charging stations, wind and solar inverters, and energy storage. Collaboration with global teams, interaction with suppliers, conference participation, and research publication in technical venues will also be part of your journey.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop innovative solutions around grid-following and grid-forming application controls for converters in utility scale solar and energy storage as well as SST for hyper scale data center and charging station applications.

Conduct feasibility studies in simulation as well as analytical approach to assess the dynamic performance of power electronics systems.

Develop and optimize control algorithms for power electronics control system.

Translate algorithms into software implementation and create the firmware framework.

Design, build and verify hardware in varies testing conditions.

Participate the development and delivery of dynamic simulation models (Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, PSS/E) for grid compliance study.

Skills and Experience:

Knowledge of electronics circuit develop concepts, analog and digital electronics, power losses, semiconductor device basics, etc.

Knowledge of inverter topologies, PWM modulation strategies, control theory, and programming.

Strong knowledge of power converter linear and nonlinear control concepts.

Experience in simulation tools such as MATLAB, PSCAD, PLECS, LTSPICE, PSS/E.

Experience working with digital signal processors (DSPs) and microcontrollers employed in power electronics applications.

Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or similar.

Excellent hands-on and problem-solving skills.

AC-DC, DC-AC converter hardware prototyping and testing experience is a plus.

Familiarity with grid-forming operating modes and algorithms is a strong plus.

Familiarity with grid operation is a strong plus.

Qualifications

M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Electrical
