Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist by performing clerical and technical tasks related to the filling of patients' prescriptions.

1. Communicate with patients in a courteous and professional manner in face to face encounters and via the telephone.

2. Educates the patient and family member on the patient's prescriptions within scope of knowledge and authority.

1. Performs other necessary duties as required by the Johnson Health Center to meet the goal of providing pharmacy services to patients.

1. Performs clerical and technical functions for the Pharmacist.

2. Uses the pharmacy computer system for data entry including adding patients, looking up prices, filling and refilling prescriptions, as well as other duties associated with prescriptions and patient assistance programs.

3. Operates the point of sale (POS) system and associated duties for product sales. Responsible for record keeping and signature capture.

4. Assists in inventory orders and processing invoices.

5. Will maintain adequate supply of pharmacy supplies, including but limited to paper, labels, bottles, and vials.

6. Mix pharmaceutical preparations.

7. Performs routine housekeeping chores within the pharmacy.

1. Attends and participates in staff and other JHC meetings as required.

1. Actively participates in the JHC QI program.

1.Attends all mandatory OSHA infection control seminars, and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including "Universal Precautions".

2. Abides by all Johnson Health Center infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.

The Pharmacy Technician reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Pharmacy Director.

The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing, and will be carried out by the Pharmacy Director. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the Pharmacy Director.

1. Completion of high school diploma or GED.

2. Completed Pharmacy Technician study program.

3. Requires use/operation of standard pharmacy and business office equipment.

4. Must be licensed to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

5. The ability to relate effectively with patients and staff.

This is an FLSA Non-Exempt position.

This is an OSHA low risk position.

This is an ADA negotiable position.
