Description

The Graphic Designer position is responsible for creating a wide range of effective, visually appealing, on-brand, and on-strategy creative content geared toward prospective Rockhurst students. This includes, but is not limited to, web pages, email design and templates, social media graphics, banner ads, print marketing and other creative as assigned. The candidate will take projects from inception to completion and communicate effective messages through strong visual designs targeted to the intended audience.

This position will manage multiple projects at once and be comfortable working on tight deadlines. It requires strengths in graphic design, critical thinking, project management capabilities, written and verbal communication, and attention to detail. The right candidate will show an enthusiastically positive attitude for making sure work is error-free, on time and on budget.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and distribute visual assets central to managing and maintaining consistent university branding.
  • Collaborate with university partners to design materials that achieve their goals and elevate the University brand.
  • Prepare final files for print purposes, package, and send to proper channels.
  • Stay on the pulse of creative and design innovations and techniques.
  • Research current market and social trends and keep abreast of culture trends and potential impacts and inspiration for the Rockhurst brand.
  • Collaborate with other designers and team members who handle videography, web development and social media to develop visual concepts that align with marketing and university strategies.
  • Design print and digital content including print marketing, web content, emails and other as directed.
  • Manage time to meet scheduling expectations and deadlines.
  • Work efficiently and effectively with Adobe CC Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) on Mac systems.
  • Execute numerous projects, activities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Support and coordinate project work - including complex and highly integrated campaign/communication materials - with the goal of completing milestones and deliverables on time, on strategy, and within budget and scope.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent creative thinking and visual skills, including use of photography, graphic design and typography.
  • Excellent attention to detail, file organization and file management.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to coordinate, communicate and adhere to detailed production schedules.
  • Values collaboration and strives for creative excellence.
  • Strong ability to adapt to changing market conditions.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines on an ongoing basis
  • Fluent with Adobe Creative Suite-specifically InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated and creative with the ability to learn, understand and effectively execute all brand standards and styles.
  • Responds positively to creative and professional feedback.
  • Shows desire to take charge and seize opportunities for growth.
  • HTML skills are a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE)
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, communication or marketing (or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience).
  • Computer skills: proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud programs, including but not limited to InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
  • 2+ years of experience in a marketing firm, advertising agency, nonprofit, corporate marketing environment or university marketing department is preferred, but not required.
