Sales Manager (Air & Ocean Freight) - Erlanger, KY


About the Job:

The Sales Manager role entails expanding the global third-party logistics business within a designated territory, aligning with corporate objectives such as revenue and profit targets, and product growth initiatives. As the primary point of contact for sales with prospects and the account manager for customers in the region, this position involves the identification and cultivation of potential leads, leading them through the sales process from initial contact to becoming valued customers. The Sales Manager is a motivated professional with expertise in import/export ocean (NVOCC) and air transportation, capable of crafting compelling value propositions to build strong client relationships. Successfully marketing value-added 3PL solutions, encompassing customs brokerage, P.O./vendor management, I.T. services, consolidation/CFS, warehousing, and distribution, is also pivotal for success.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Expand the global 3PL business/services within the assigned territory in line with corporate goals (e.g., revenue, profit, and product growth targets).
  • Act as the primary sales contact for prospects and the account manager for assigned customers in the region.
  • Identify and nurture qualified leads through cold calling, guiding them through various sales stages, including new (qualified) leads/introductions, and mid and late-stage sales life cycle targets. Maintain a diverse sales pipeline covering different account types, company sizes, industries, and types of business, both transactional and strategic.
  • Conduct regular (daily) visits to qualified prospects and customers as per management directives to boost business, and increase company revenue, market share, and profitability. Foster professional relationships at all levels and represent the company effectively, including conducting presentations.
  • Perform quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with clients.
  • Manage various administrative aspects, including expense reporting in adherence to the company's budget and travel policy.
  • Achieve annual growth targets (revenue, profit, volume).
  • Demonstrate the ability to close business independently, with access to management team and corporate support when needed.


Experience and skills:

  • At least two (2)+ years of relevant outside sales experience with a provable book of business and established shipper relationships across various industries.
  • Proficiency in ocean (NVOCC) and air freight, encompassing both import and export.
  • Capability to promote the company's other business lines, including customs brokerage, consolidation/CFS, and related value-added information services.
  • A unique blend of strong interpersonal and communication/presentation skills, both written and oral, combined with a sharp business acumen and consultative sales approach.


Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of freight forwarding services, including ocean (NVOCC) and air freight (import & export), consolidation, customs brokerage, and related value-added information services.
  • Ability to sell solutions-oriented 3PL products (PO/Vendor/cargo management & origin services, warehousing/distribution, etc.).
  • Self-disciplined and self-starter.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Accurate typing skills.
  • Aptitude for learning new applications.
