**Position Summary:**
The Custodian/Security Guard will work to promote a safe and clean environment at the Maryland SPCA. They will perform cleaning and light maintenance duties on campus, with security duties as needed. This position reports to the Business and Facilities Manager and provides support to our various departments. This is a full-time position, Tuesday - Saturday, noon- 8 PM.
**Custodian Responsibilities** :
* Clean and sanitize bathrooms
* Clean sinks, countertops, microwaves, refrigerators, and dishwashers in all breakrooms
* Restock supplies in breakrooms and bathrooms
* Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary
* Dust and clean office desks and furniture that are not cluttered
* Sweep, vacuum, mop floors and stairs
* Clean windowsills and windows
* Remove litter from buildings, surrounding grounds, and parking lot
* Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized manner
* Maintain janitorial equipment in clean, safe, operable condition
* Perform other routine maintenance duties as assigned
**Security Responsibilities**
* Perform routine rounds of facility and grounds, notifying management of deficiencies or repair needs
* Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
* Monitors client flow throughout the day
* Monitor video surveillance system as needed
* Assist staff or clients with security related issues
* Investigate disturbances and address concerns with appropriate authorities as needed, including Baltimore City police, EMTs, fire department, etc.
* Write and track incident reports
* Diffuse dangerous/tense situations as needed
* Escort staff to vehicles as requested
* Secure buildings at the end of the day
* Perform other duties as assigned
**Qualification Requirements:**
* High school diploma or GED
* 1+ years custodial experience preferred
* Security training preferred
* De-escalation training preferred
* Must be a minimum 21 years of age and must pass a criminal background check
* Attention to detail
* Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, with the ability to diffuse tense situations
* Patience and understanding towards every individual
* Ability to maintain professionalism in varying interactions
* Ability to handle multiple priorities and balance the needs of each
* Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical ability
* Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple deadlines and tasks
* Ability to work independently
* Must adhere to all guidelines as set forth in the MD SPCA's Employee Handbook
* Open minded regarding changes with the willingness to learn, implement and teach new protocols
* Holds qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the MD SPCA's mission

**Physical Demands:**
* Ability to stand for long periods of time
* Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds

**Working Conditions** :
* Work is performed both outdoors in various conditions and in office settings, noise levels are moderate
