About the Company & Position:Rowell Chemical is a bulk chemical manufacturer and distributor in the Chicago area, is seeking experienced chemical operators or material handlers to fill Chemical Operator and Chemical Loader positions at their expanding south suburban Chicago facility. This hourly position will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the plant site. Key duties will include loading/unloading trucks, railcars and barges with a variety of chemical products. Chemical operators will run a small batch manufacturing operation within the terminal.
Ideal candidates for this position will have a background in chemical manufacturing or distribution. Candidates with a background in unrelated manufacturing or other heavy industrial trades will be considered
Responsibilities of the Chemical Operator and Chemical Loader include:- Adherence to operating and safety procedures.
- Load and unload barges, tank cars and tank trucks with a variety of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals.
- Running a small batch manufacturing process
- Wear and properly store/maintain all company provided PPE.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of paperwork associated with the manufacturing/unloading/loading operations.
- Contribute to safety and quality meetings.
- Identify maintenance work and work with the Terminal or Manufacturing Supervisors to facilitate repairs as necessary.
- Perform incidental maintenance work on equipment as needed.
- Perform minor maintenance work on buildings and property as needed.
- General housekeeping of work area and other misc. duties as necessary.
These hourly positions are generally Monday-Friday positions that may require shift work and will require occasional weekend work. Rowell Chemical runs a 24/5 operation, so there are operator and loader positions on day, middle and late shift. The exact shift for incoming operators and loaders is to be determined and all incoming personnel must be available to work any of the three shifts depending on staffing and business needs.

- 0-4 Years of chemical manufacturing and/or distribution experience
- 1-5 Years of manufacturing or other heavy industrial experience
- Must be able to read/write/speak English
- Must be proficient in basic mathematics
- Must be able to pass a position based physical fitness test
Other Preferred Knowledge/Experience- Experience with driving OTR trucks either on the road or in a plant environment
- Experience supervising others is a significant plus
- Experience with Safety and/or Quality programs
- Experience handling Chlor-Alkali, flammable/combustible, petroleum or other hazardous materials
- Experience with computers programs including Microsoft Office products
