Role

The Food Pantry Assistant's primary responsibility is to assist the Pantry Manager with the day to day operations of the Food Pantry. Occasional weekend work may be necessary. Applicant MUST have excellent interpersonal skills to lead volunteers and work with clients.

Duties

* Assist the Pantry Manager with receiving, sorting, stocking, and storing refrigerated food items and packing food orders

* Assist with the ordering purchase of food and supplies

* Greet volunteers and clients politely and warmly and train volunteers to carry out the daily operation of the Food Pantry

* Work with groups, community agencies and organizations and to orientate them on Pantry and agency activities

* Assist in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment Keep the Food Pantry, refrigerator and freezers clean. This includes the breakdown of cardboard boxes for recycling, carrying out the trash, and other duties assigned by the manager

* Organize and distribute food

* Attend Safe Serve Food safety training

* Perform other duties associated with the orderly operation of the Food Pantry and/or assigned by manager

* Assist with shopping at the organization's scheduled time at the Greater Boston Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC and any other times as may be necessary and at other grocery stores in order to maintenance appropriate levels of inventory stock
