SUMMARY:


The Director of Purchasing is responsible for directing purchasing functions of the corporation in accordance with industry standards and as appropriate and in keeping with company objectives and policies. The Purchasing Manager will also participate in the development of the corporation's plans and programs as a strategic partner in evaluating and advising on the impact of long-range planning. Furthermore, the Purchasing Manager will coordinate with the global purchasing organization as needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Knowledge and practice of Hutchinson s Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures and requirements.
  • Negotiate with vendors / direct negotiation of vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services used.Negotiations will follow internal control rules, group matter agreements and purchasing procedures, and follow corporate ethical code.
  • Develop credibility for the administration group by providing timely and accurate analyses of spending, project proposals and business trends in order to assist the President/CEO and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation. Of particular note would be those used for purchasing and contract management.
  • Provide technical/professional advice and knowledge to others within the various administrative areas and discipline.
  • Manage the company's ongoing relationships with suppliers.
  • Advise, negotiate, manage and administer all purchase contracts into which the Corporation may enter. Counsel with executive management on the financial viability of entering into such contracts.
  • Evaluate the team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals.
  • Report on material & exchange rate trends a timely basis.
  • Report categorized information on a monthly basis for price evolution.
  • Establish plans to generate savings through leverage and purchasing efficiency.
  • Establishes Purchasing Policies and ensure compliance
  • Develops new supply sources where vendors are inadequate
  • Manage bid analysis and award process.
  • Establishes account/credit and terms
  • Negotiates blanket purchase orders when appropriate and monitors cost during the time period.
  • Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws
  • Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with all departments within the office and plant. Attention to detail and accuracy. Must have good computer skills with a working knowledge of analytical skills, excellent communication skills (oral and written), ability to work well with others, self-motivated, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations. Must understand and have the ability read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. As well as the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to the Board and outsiders.


EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:


Bachelors or Masters in Engineering or Purchasing or equivalent MBA preferred;

An experienced leader and executive with appropriate industry experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


Basic level math skills


COMPUTER SKILLS:


Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access


REASONING ABILITY:


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and process several abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to assess reasonableness of the analysis performed.

There may be occasions where the employee will have tasks to perform in a Laboratory environment and a Manufacturing environment, where Personal Protective Equipment such as Hearing Protection, Safety Glasses and Safety Shoes are required.
