Overview:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying well-established accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices to the fundamental financial operations at the University. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Business Office and Financial Aide finance manager to evaluate current operating practices and ensure they align with accounting requirements for audit and internal financial reporting purposes. This position will identify process improvements in all facets of the accounting process.

Functions:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares standard and nonstandard income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
  • Ensures that the assigned day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives.
  • Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting reserves, assets and expenditures.
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
  • Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.
  • Coordinates accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and produce appropriate journal entries.
  • Manage the accounts payable and payroll accounting function.
  • Ensure accounts receivable balances between Campus Management and Great Plains are accurate.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Two to Five years of related business experience.
  • Experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proprietary, for profit, business experience desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Great Plains and Nexus Payables highly preferred
