Overview:

UX Design Managers are expert-level contributors on the UX Design Team. They manage large teams of designers, taking personal responsibility for the success of the designers on their team. They are respected team members who lead by example, shaping the UX team and process with their ideas and influence. They are focused on developing processes, directing projects, reviewing work, mentoring designers, and removing organizational barriers that stand in the way of project success.
User Experience Managers live at the crossroads of empathy and technology. They are responsible for leading groups of designers and collaborating with partners within the greater UX Team and throughout Cvents Technology department.

As Manager, you will play an integral role and work collaboratively with various stakeholder groups to deliver enhancements to our enterprise applications. The ideal candidate must have a genuine passion for the latest developments in software design as well as be able to provide insight and expertise to the Product Design process and best practices for user-centered design.
The successful candidate should have significant experience in product design, design thinking, information architecture and other, related UX techniques in a software development setting. Finally, you should possess strong leadership skills, self-initiative, and a willingness to shepherd new ideas within the organization. This position plays an integral role in driving application design and development and providing product feedback at all stages of the development life cycle.

In This Role, You Will::

Putting the focus on our customers and users

  • Champion a deep understanding of the user with the UX, Product Management, and Engineering partners collaborating on that product or project team, leveraging user personas, roles, pain points, and needs.
  • Engage with user research to plan and conduct studies, and mentor your direct reports to do the same.

Managing exploratory design efforts

  • Organize and facilitate design jams (our take on mini Design Sprints) and other collaborative design sessions to produce creative solutions.
  • Encourage the Product Designers you manage to explore multiple solution options to each problem.

Related to our design processes

  • Manage your projects to the defined design process and track design tasks across your team.
  • Conduct design reviews following a clear structure that produces actionable feedback.
  • Ensure designers are creating design specifications and functional annotations for their work.
  • Work with PM and Engineering to implement a process for reviewing developed UIs against original designs to verify consistency.
  • Collaborate with other UX leaders to ensure design consistency across the platform.

Management basics

  • Infuse your projects with an understanding of Cvents business and the event industry in general to provide compelling rationale and indicate ROI.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day tasks for your designers, and work with them and other stakeholders to prioritize work, load-balance assignments, and define timelines.
  • Mentor designers to help them progress their skills, experience, and Cvent careers.
  • Set short- and long-term career goals with each designer on your team, and provide clear, constructive feedback in regular check-ins and semi-annual performance reviews.

Organizational dexterity

  • Create strong professional partnerships with your Product Management and Engineering counterparts and other UX team members, and build trust through your transparency and collaboration toward your goals.
  • Advocate for UX at every step of the product development lifecycle. Challenge partners and stakeholders to adopt a more design-centered approach whenever necessary.

Team engagement

  • Communicate clearly and frequently to your team about project needs, updates, and tasks. Regularly update UX leadership on project status, people risks, and opportunities to align.
  • Present design work, designer coaching, and project overviews confidently and capably.
  • Understand the emotional needs, working styles, and motivators of each member of their team. Take feedback well, without ego, and listen to your team.
Here's What You Need::
  • Strong UX analysis & design experience in large-scale software development environment and a strong understanding of information architecture and user-centered design methodology.
  • Solid exposure to web and mobile software development, product/design research, and brand awareness.
  • Demonstrated success in leading UX design and software product development opportunities from concept to successful launch/implementation.
  • Significant experience in building teams, goal setting, coaching, and developing individuals to achieve targeted results.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic/analytical thinking, communication, problem solving, influencing, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with design systems, as well as with accessibility (WCAG) and privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and related best practices.


Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Post Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Human Computer Interaction or related technical or design field
  • 5+ years of progressive UX/UI design and/or product management experience in software, web and mobile environments
