Director of Psychology

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for the management of the daily operations of the department of psychology and serves as consultant to patient care units and other health care professionals. Supervises the practice of the clinical psychology externs and interns. Acts as liaison to the graduate schools of psychology. Internally, the incumbent will interface with hospital management, staff, and patients. Externally, the incumbent will interface with family members, healthcare treatment agencies, licensing and accrediting agencies, and clinical psychology doctoral programs.

Demonstrates refined psychological assessment skills through testing experiences, teaching, and supervision of externs and interns.

Demonstrates refined interview and therapy skills through psychotherapy experiences, teaching, and supervision of externs and interns.

Demonstrates breadth and depth of knowledge in psychopathology.

Demonstrates awareness of the role of biopsychosocial factors in the treatment of psychiatric patients.

Demonstrates knowledge of the rol of diversity in the assessment and treatment of psychiatric patients.

Demonstrates knowledge of and practice consistent with the professional, legal, and ethical principles of the field of psychology.

Demonstrates skill in the supervision of externs and interns.

Demonstrates basic management of the workflow in the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises psychological evaluations according to accepted standards of practice.

Supervises psychotherapy services to assigned patients.

Supervises group therapy interventions.

Provide consultative services to other members of the health care team.

Supervises the clinical practice of the psychology externs and interns.

Supports and maintains the hospital and unit policies regarding patient safety and security .

Utilizes effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. Ensures that entries in the medical record are legible and cosigns entries.

Represents the Psychology Department at PIW meetings.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA-accredited program.

Psychology Licensure in the District of Columbia
