**Summary**

**About the Position:** You will serve as a cook aboard the Motor Vessel Lawson. The crew reports to wherever the vessel is located at the beginning of the workweek. The crew typically works four 10-hour days per week, Monday through Thursday. Overtime is occasionally required. The crew live on the vessel during the work week. Meals and quarters are provided.

**Duties**

* Prepares, cooks, seasons, and portions food for all meals by following standardized recipes at different levels of difficulty.

* Prepares all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, gravies, soups, and deserts.

* Cuts meats and poultry into required rat

* Bakes pies, cakes, rolls, and breads.

* Assures food conforms to established food standards.

* Prepares menu items that require using special recipes that require numerous interrelated steps, many ingredients, and lengthy preparation time

* Plans the preparation of entire meals.

* Is responsible for keeping galley, mess hall, refrigerator, and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.

* Maintains required training and Food Safety certificates

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common cooking tasks by preparing raw food or assembling prepared food for serving, to prepare items that require little or no processing and to operate basic kitchen equipment. I assemble salads and prepare salad dressings, make sandwiches and assemble box meals. Clean all equipment and work areas after each use. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

* Physical Effect: Works requires continual standing and walking; frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.

* Working Conditions The work is performed in kitchen areas which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. The incumbent is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walking refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, grease, and water.
