Food Safety and Compliance Specialist

Job Summary:

The Food Safety Compliance Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the database for the vendor compliance program and will assist with facilitating and supporting the management and executive of various corporate/company related projects and assignments. This role will require cross-functional engagement with various internal teams including but not limited to executive leadership, procurement, business development, and marketing.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the documentation and record-keeping processes related to Food Safety and Quality compliance, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of records.
  • Handle communication on recalls/market withdrawals.
  • Manage and report on customer and supplier complaint management.
  • Review supplier documentation to ensure they meet established criteria following the vendor approval process.
  • Stay abreast of evolving regulatory requirements, industry trends, and emerging issues related to Food Safety and Quality, and proactively integrate relevant updates into the compliance standards.
  • Prepare reports on compliance status, audit findings, corrective actions, and quality performance metrics, highlighting areas for improvement and recommending strategies for enhancing compliance performance.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to problems in order to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Time Management: The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential in this role.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree or higher in a related field.
  • 2-3 experience with fresh food, preferably fresh produce, or perishable commodities.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience, education and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and proficiencies.
  • Knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of GFSI Standards and various audit schemes.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations, laws, and best practices strongly preferred.
  • PCQI, HACCP, and CP-FS credentials strongly preferred.
  • Professional, prompt, and polished written and verbal communication skills.
  • Persistent work ethic and self-motivation.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and planning skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Ability to identify and execute measures to continuously improve or enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Ability to achieve goals independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to be resilient in a high-energy, fast-paced, and competitive setting.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite
