About the role and where you will be working:

Southern Cross Care (WA) Inc. operates and supports three Community Options houses in Western Australia.

Community Options is a residential mental health program facilitated at sites in Stirling, Mount Claremont and Bentley, that offer 24/7 care and support. This position is based solely at Bentley.

This is a Night Shift position on a rotating roster.

We support residents aged between 18 and 65 who require help following a long-term stay in hospital due to mental illness.

We ll also be asking you to:

Using the recovery approach, you ll work alongside residents as they re-learn or gain new skills to live independently in the community. This will include:

  • Working closely with relevant managers, external primary care & clinical staff.
  • Assisting with domestic activities such as cleaning, cooking & shopping.
  • Monitoring & supporting medication management.
  • Supporting clients to achieve short term / long term recovery goals.
  • Helping clients become active community members.
  • Identifying opportunities for education, training & employment.

About you:

You easily relate to and empathise with others and can comfortably support people with complex mental health conditions.

It would be terrific if you have mental health qualifications, but we also welcome applications if you re currently undertaking studies in this field.

If required, we ll provide you with medication competence training. As you gain experience, we will develop the capability to become an Approved Supervisor.

To be considered for this role, you ll need:

  • Certificate III in Mental Health, or a higher qualification, or equivalent in experience will guide you success within this role
  • Experience working with people experiencing mental health conditions
  • Commitment to facilitating recovery with individualised support services
  • Initiative & comfortable working independently
  • An ability to plan & problem solve
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster
