Position: Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

Reports to: Executive Management (Owner, COO, CFO)


Summary:

Plans and administers all phases of environmental, health, and safety activities at manufacturing location(s) in conjunction with the management leadership team. Primary areas of responsibility include environmental compliance, initiative-taking attention, and continuous improvement in safety performance along with general instruction in safety awareness for all employees.

Ensure compliance with all ISO 14001 requirements and environmental legal compliance. Develops and implements EHS guidelines.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities':

  • Administers location Environmental and Safety procedures and policies to all employees, including training.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain programs, policies and practices for monitoring and preventing physical, chemical, and biological hazards at facilities.
  • Promotes positive employee/safety relations by advising and making decisions that are fair, consistent, and compliant with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Drive corrective and/or preventive action activities.
  • Actively manager recordable injuries, first aid incidents, and near miss incidents from the care of the employee to correcting the root cause of the injury or incident.
  • Provide engineering solutions to continually improve the workplace to provide a safe ergonomic environment for the employees.
  • Work closely with managers/supervisors and employees to implement continuous improvement safety procedures throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Coordinates the safety program for all location(s) including conducting accident/fire investigation's, conducting safety inspections, maintaining SDSs, participating in safety meetings and analyzing injury statistics.
  • Respond as needed to outside agencies or appropriate individuals regarding safety, environmental, and/or work-related issues.
  • Conducts weekly, monthly, and quarterly safety audits to investigate and record safety items needing action.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in the industry, OSHA, and other governmental regulations.
  • Ensures compliance of national fire codes, sprinklers, and fire systems.
  • Conduct annual safety planning process and training schedule.
  • Plans and conducts new hire Orientation to foster positive safety attitudes towards company goals.
  • Understanding of Safety Management Programs and how they function.
  • As a member of the Company's management team, participations in operation and management meetings as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all related ISO 14001 procedures and requirements.
  • As the Environmental Manager of ISO 14001 for the plant, reports and coordinates the performance of the EMS Program to management and appropriate individuals on a periodic basis for the review and improvement of the EMS.
  • Provides other management reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned or otherwise delegated.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, Health & Safety Management or related field from a college or university preferred.
  • Must have at least 5 years' experience in a safety management role in a manufacturing organization.
  • Must have a solid understanding of Federal and State OSHA, EPA laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of Air permits Synthetic Minor (Pre Title-V)
  • Understanding of Brownfield Sites
  • Understanding of Safety Programs such as LOTO
  • Experience working with OSHA and doing inspections with OSHA.
  • OSHA 30 Hour required (OSHA 501 preferred)
  • CSP, COSS, COSM Certification preferred.
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of managers or employees and ability to author reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must have thick skin.
