Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, the Perioperative Nurse Specialist is responsible for the effective implementation of staff orientation and education in the Operating Room, Pre-Op, PACU, Endoscopy, Children's Surgery and Sterile Processing departments.

The Educator acts as a role model for high quality clinical skills

Coordinates nursing orientation for experienced and inexperienced perioperative staff

Assists others in the identification and fulfillment of educational needs

Responds to requests for problem resolution; coordinates and|or performs a variety of staff development functions to include: department specific needs assessments, development of goals and objectives, implementation methods and evaluation measures

Provides education support for staff with emphasis on service line development

Participates in the review and revision of evidence based perioperative clinical nursing practice

Develops initial and annual competencies for all staff as needed for documentation of skill and competence

Acts as a clinical resource for management and administration and responds to customer needs while enhancing the image of professional nursing.

Experience:

Three (3) years of full-time equivalent or more prior experience in an Acute Care Perioperative and Operating Room clinical setting

One (1) year of full-time equivalent or more prior experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist preferred.

Education:

Must either hold a master's degree as a clinical nurse specialist or other qualified master's degree and certification as a clinical nurse specialist as recognized by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Certifications | Licensure:

Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC|eNLC Multistate License.BLS Certification RequiredCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider CourseCurrent Adult Advanced Life Support Provider CourseCurrent CNOR CertificationActive AORN membership

Special Skills:

Demonstrates advanced knowledge in physiology and pathophysiology of adult medical and surgical care. Possesses advanced clinical competency in areas of perioperative nursing care and in teaching procedures and equipment use, using a theoretical nursing framework.

Proficiency in both the Scrub and Circulating roles in the Operating Room.

Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge and competency in areas of specialization.

Utilizes interpersonal and effective communication skills necessary to maintain good working relationships with customers.

Is flexible and adaptable in rapidly changing environments.

Is able to identify and creatively solve problems independently and cooperatively with others.

Possesses analytical skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate patient care delivery and related quality improvement activities.

Ability to learn and utilize computerized patient care management system.
