Safety Manager - Lynchburg, VA eCommerce Distribution Center

Overview:


Develop, and oversee the general health and safety policies and procedures for J. Crew s ecommerce distribution center in Lynchburg, VA. The Safety Manager will work closely with the distribution center and contact center leadership to improve the overall health and safety of J. Crew s associates.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and all regulatory standards including but not limited to Hazard communication, lockout/tag out, confined space entry, hearing conservation, machine guarding, ergonomics, PPE, respiratory protection, electrical safety, fall protection, powered industrial equipment (PIE)
  • Accompany all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through inspections
  • Coordinate, administer, and enforce intensive training programs related to industrial, occupational, and environmental safety
  • Develop curriculum and tools for safety and OHSA training for new-hire orientation
  • Provide training in hazard identification, incident analysis and OSHA compliance for safety committee members, supervisors and managers
  • Coordinate with insurance carrier s safety engineers
  • Conduct formal facility-wide safety inspections with facility leadership on a monthly basis
  • Develop a job safety analysis (JSA) program for all job functions in each distribution center and recommend improvements to prevent future accidents and/or improve ergonomics
  • Develop a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required KPI reporting. Create action plans based on the analysis of collected data to improve overall workplace safety
  • Present KPI results on a regular basis to senior leadership
  • Develop emergency evacuation plans and maps
  • Manage an effective first responder program
  • Organize and facilitate multi-shift safety committees comprised of associates and leadership with well-established goals
  • Work with HR and workers compensation department to follow high-cost or precedent-setting cases
  • Work with trainers to manage the powered industrial equipment (PIE) training program
  • This position has no direct reports


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational environment health and safety, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years' professional safety experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) status
  • The candidate must have demonstrated computer skills: Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) & database applications
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills with all levels of employees and management
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Experience working with distribution operations in a retail E-commerce environment is preferred
